Look I know everyone rolls their eyes at ESPN, but the fact of the matter is they are really the only 24 hour sports network, and I have no other option to go to for sports programming. So I was home today and had ESPN first take one, and I just wanted to vomit all over the place. First Take is a 2 hour program, and they spent, THE ENTIRE two hours talking about Tim Tebow; I am not exagerating here, from 10:00 am to 12 noon, not a single topic other than Tim Tebow, and then at 12 noon they replayed the episode, FOUR straight hours of Tebow talk. It is driving me insane; I thought Favre madness was bad, but this is ten times worse and it is staying for the next decade unless he falls flat on his face, and even then I wouldn't put it past ESPN to keep covering him in some way. I like Tim Tebow, I like what he has done so far, and I can't believe I am saying this, but I am almost hoping the Patriots win 41-0 on Sunday, because this Tim Tebow obsession is becoming a Cult. Questions like is Tim Tebow a pro bowler? is Tim Tebow an MVP candidate? Are the Broncos super bowl bound? are the things that are being discussed, and it is simply disgusting. ESPN is becoming unwatchable on a level that has never been seen before. Rant over.
I completely agree with your rant. It is on a scale never before seen before. However, you staying tuned in for four hours isn't really the way to send ESPN a message. As someone with a background in broadcast television, I can tell you this: If people keep tuning in, the ratings say they are doing a good job.
I wasn't watching for 4 hours lol I would have jumped out the window if that were the case, I just know first take is on twice a day back to back. It's a show I normally like to watch because they actually talk in depth about nfl and nba, but now it has hit critical mass. When they start seriously having discussions about "who would you rather have in the 4th quarter, Brady or Tebow?" or the MVP discussions, it isn't even funny any more, it is an abomination and a disgrace to sports.
I think first take has been like that all week. Tuesday I was off from work and it was all Tebow then too. It is ridiculous.
I was home for lunch and I turned on the TV. I didn't really care what was going on on Sportscenter at the time so I flipped the channel up one to watch First Take and I saw what you're talking about. It was some kind of "special" program featuring Skip Bayless in Denver surrounded by cult members, shouting with Steven A Smith in the studio. It was literally just cult followers chanting Tebow's name and Skip Bayless stroking off to him.
My God, that must ahve been as horrible as trying to read a huge block of text from someone with a broken enter key. Oh the insanity!
Skip gets alot of haters, but I was never one of them as I found him morbidly entertaining. I always sort of felt the same way about Steven A. However, together they make 1st and 10 unwatchable. They just scream at each other without accomplishing anything. It's like watching Big Blocker and Hobbes have a political "conversation".
It's what people want. Turn on sports talk radio and every caller wants to talk abour Tebow. ESPN is very good at judging what people want to hear and read about and giving it to them. Tebow gives you a big bump in viewers and page views, same as Favre used to. When interest dies off they'll move to something new.
Of course Skip wants to talk Tebow non-stop. He wants him to be the first openly gay Super Bowl QB. Tim will only be able to use God as his beard until someone recognizes him giving head in a Colorado Springs truck stop.
Just sick of how no one is talking about the rest of the team. I have nothing personally against Tebow he seems like a good sincere religous guy and theres nothing wrong with that. The problem is the dishonesty of the sports journalism world giving credit only to Tebow for winning the games. There is 52 other players who are also 5-1 or whatever it is now and no one will give them credit. They are pushing Tebow like he's going 39/42 with 400 yds and 5 tds every game, when it is blatantly not the case. Like the 72 dolphins people will look back on this streak in several years and dissect the various team states(backup qbs, injuries, no forte, fumbles dumb mistakes, prevent defenses, playing the dolphins etc. jets on a short week) and conclude that their record does not accuratley gauge how good they were during this streak. Wins shouldn't be credited to single people anyway, its a dumb largely irrevelant stat.
the thing is, it is justified. what Tebow is doing is simply unprecedented. you have a QB that seems to be below average at best, he plays terribly for 3 quarters, but then when the game is on the line he not only makes plays, he actually makes substantial drives to win games. it is simply dumbfounding. that is why it is getting so much attention because in the end, nobody can explain it. it comes down to the cliche -- he is a winner -- as lame as it sounds. he has pulled out low scoring games, he has pulled out a high scoring game. for some odd reason, the team wins when he plays and at the end of the game they win specifically because he makes plays. it is funny how so many people say all that matters is the win. well, that is all Tebow does. he certainly should be an MVP candidate because the fact is the Broncos are better with him playing. he shouldn't be the MVP, but the topic is legitimate.
Agreed. Love him or hate him... you're talking about him too and just went out of your way to write a giant block of paragraph-less shit that we all then went out of our way read.
espn will do everything in its power to get me to hate tebow... i cant stand the way they jump on someones jock and just ride it as long as they can.
And the fun thing is that Denver's success is ALL on the D. Without that D keeping games closed they wouldn't have won one friggin' game! I don't dislike Tim Tebow but as someone said Skelton has won some games for the Cardinals and no one is saying he is the sole reason they won...
Switching between ESPN and ESPN 2, happened to Tim Tebow..just turned off my tv. It's getting a little annoying.
