Shotty will become a OC or headcoach somewhere else. Tom is calling the shots thats why the NYJ are winning period, end of story.

Extra draft picks for Shotty, smart move by FO to extend him, knowing that someone will pick him up and thinking the "new" gamecalling was due to Shotty. Tom is the man!

The Jets definitely didn't look like the same offense today. Several passes in the flats to Greene. A couple of deep routes for Holmes. Not a lot of slant action across the middle. They looked like they were trying something else out to see how it worked.

Yes, but not because of Schotty.

I think both should be looked at for the end of 2012. Evaluate them on what they've done and re-sign who should be signed.

I'd say Sanchez has earned a contract extension.

Schotty called a great game. But my opinion of him as an OC is written in stone. I dont want an OC that occasionally calls a great game. Plus it seems strange that the offense is starting to click better now with Moore closer to the team. Can't say how much he is influencing the play calling because no one on here really knows.

Moore is definitely helping but coaches can improve too. I hope if we keep Schotty that he goes forward remembering all the advice that Moore has given him. Especially the way we have played in the red zone.

I get what your saying but how many years does schotty get to improve? What happens when moore isnt around? I think Schotty has had his fair shot

I'd agree, but it's not like he'd be going anywhere after his contract is up. I'd say run out his contract and assess his value properly.

You don't develop offensive coordinators. They're there to make the offense better, not to get on-the-job training as to how to make an offense better.

That's why highly successful people get the job, do it well, and then move on to better things.

Why the Jets hired Brian Schottenheimer with Eric Mangini is a conundrum. They let the kiddies run the playpen with no adult supervision. Three years later when that had unsurprisingly turned into nothing of real value they half-moved on.

They should have all-moved on at that point because Schotty hadn't actually learned anything in 3 years as OC, not that the Jets should have been providing him with on-the-job training anyway.

Instead they saddled Rex Ryan, a rookie head coach, with a continuing problem on the offensive side of the ball. When Rex had to mandate Ground and Pound at the end of 2009 the Jets should have realized they weren't just dealing with an inexperienced QB, they were still dealing with an inexperienced OC as well nearly 4 years into the job.

So let's say our dream world comes true and Schotty actually becomes a good offensive coordinator? What happens then? He moves on. There's no upside here for the Jets. They need to cut the cord and move on.

What? So you don't want him to improve and do really well because then he might leave to HC somewhere. So what we want is a different OC who will do just well enough to not get a HC job somewhere? Schotty has said himself he likes it here and is not looking for a head coaching job.

My point is that he's not there yet and there's absolutely no reason for the Jets to stick with him and hope he gets there. There's no upside because he probably won't make it, but even if he does they lose him quick anyway.

When you have no upside in a deal there's no reason to stay with it. You're just asking to get slammed when the downside shows up as it always does eventually if the upside isn't there.

I dont understand why you are assuming that Schotty is just all of a sudden going to leave him he does well. He has said himself this year that he does not want to go anywhere.
