qft. and the dude does so much dirty work. granted, hes no p-will, but he is certainly still a main part of this defense. there is way more to football than just numbers. thats why its the ultimate team sport.
Aside a select "few" Ware, Williams, Matthews how many players "dominant". Stats don't tell the story. He's a great player... Tho i agree he should quiet down
I actually think the thread is relevant. Guy was a big signing and has more games then not this season where he does nothing. All this stuff about him doing all this stuff that doesn't show up in numbers is alot of nonsense. Guy does nothing these days and on top of that, all they do is pull him off the field cause he can't cover anyone.
Bingo. All I remember was mentioning him getting cut before the season if he wasn't one of Rex's guys and I got jumped. Fact is, he has as much chance of being on the roster (unless he takes a major cut) next season as I do.
I never said debating Scott's skills is irrelevant. Using the Buffalo game, however, as a basis for judgement is misleading. How many Inside Linebackers in the NFL are actually left on the field to cover people in obvious passing downs? The Bills lined up 3 Wide (Johnson, Nelson, Smith) with Chandler and Spiller virtually all game. They were constantly in 2nd/3rd and long situations. Who did you want Scott to cover in those cases?
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he restructured and his salary is guaranteed next season. So his chances are likely better than yours.
Id like to see us use him as an outside rusher in our nickel formations. Oh and he represents or did... the new bravado of this team and a "force are will" on other teams mentality.
You should start every thread you make with a disclaimer saying 'This is relevant' just to make it official.
lol why don't you just put a big disclaimer on your posts at the top "I don't know what I'm talking about.. I'm just typing things that pop in my head even though they make no sense. If you are looking for something showing an understanding of football, please move along. Thanks"
When Rex came over this defense was pretty bad. Bart came in & held it down while Rex put in his system that enabled Jets to have a top-level defense. Even if you think Bart is over priced now, he still deserves major props for helping transition this team under Rex. When it comes to stats, Bart will not do well BUT it's not because he's constantly whiffing at RB that come his way or a constant non-factor in plays. Bart blows up blockers. He peels them off and leaves runner exposed which reduces the ball carrier yardage & helps prevent ball carrier from getting to the next level of defense. Bart doesn't blow up random nobodies away from the play. He eliminates players meant to extend the yardage for ball carrier. Rex does a lot of blitzing & it's fun to see secondary guys picking up sacks & bringing qb pressure that other teams don't. However, in Rex scheme there are players in the front 7 stuck with grunt work & rack up less stats than their counter-parts on other teams. Under Rex: NT won't get stats. Scott won't get stats. DL are not going to get sacks or many qb pressures. These guys won't grab a lot of camera attention on tv & their stat sheets are gonna look weak but it's part of the scheme. When Bart is on the field, it is not normal to see Jet defenders forced to shed blockers to make plays. This is not a coincidence, Scott is the reason. Bart today is not as good as Bart that joined the team. He's slower & his coverage skills are not as good. When opponents force Jets into nickel or dime then Bart is forced off the field. Bills kept Bart on the bench & so did Pats when they went with all those receivers & no-huddle. tldr; 1 - Bart is still productive but not as good as before 2 - His role never allowed him to get good stats so don't use stats to judge him now. 3 - Bart isn't part of the nickel/dime sets at this stage of his career, so teams are capable of forcing him off the field.
Another reason he has noot been seeing the field as much is because the coaching staff is scared that teams will go no huddle when they seem him there and get him stuck in coverage.
With the direction the NFL is going in it isn't a smart move to have two higly paid ILBs... because they won't be on the field as much. And we're stuck with Scott next year too. That said he's still good when on the field.
Scott is a solid player for us, he is just getting paid a shit ton more than he is worth, that's what bothers me, not his play.
Yeah thats pretty much the only reason to complain. I mean yeah, he does a good job at what he does- take on blockers, but he should not be getting paid what he is now. This is going to be even worse with his fully guaranteed contract next year in addition to another year of age.
Late in the game but since no one kicked it out yet, Scott was in for 43/77 defensive plays last Sunday. Blitzed nine times with one QB pressure, nine other plays in pass coverage and the other 25 in run support. He had no tackles and no assists but since the Bills only rushed 28 times and were held to 3.1 yards per attempt it is hard to find to much to complain about overall. I don't remember how he did in pass coverage but I don't recall any huge plays against him.
Excellent point. It's also the reason the Jets need to address their safety situation. The new NFL safety needs to be more of CB than a LB.
