actually no he's right....living outside of the stat box, let's think about this for a minute...the jets have been utterly frustrating with 3 and outs, yet are a minute better in TOP. hmmm...well that's an easy one...we throw shitty short routes and run the ball, then the defense gets the ball right back to the offense. the TOP being so even is a result of the defense forcing punts on the regular...and the offense running the ball and throwing short routes then punting. its really quite simple.
I made the statement that we are a run first offense, because after the first four games the goddamn HC of the NYJ said that we are going back to ground and pound. And the stats back that up. In today's NFL the average run to pass ratio is 43.98/56.02 in favor of passing. Looking at the first four games our ratio was 38.5/61.5 in favor of passing. From the fifth game going it is 48.1/51.9 in favor of passing. Our ratio for the whole season is 44.3/55.7 in favor of passing. So by looking at these stats, it is obvious that we are a more run oriented offense in today's NFL. Even with the brainfart by the coaching staff to go with a more pass oriented offense at the start of the season, we are still the 13th most running team in run-pass ratio and 15th in attempts. So by ratio we are about in the top third in most rushing teams and in attempts in the middle, in the whole season. We've lost the TOP battle in four of our ten games, two of these happened in the first four games, back when we were passing more. Two have happened after, both New England games, other one of those lost by a measly difference of 14 seconds. I would say that after Rex made the vocal change of offensive philosophy we have become a more running, control the clock kind of offense. Also the Buffalo game skews the stats for TOP, because we shut their pass first spread offense down completely, blew them out in the second half and had the most rushing attempts in our games this season. Like I said, New England was just an example. A pass first offense will always have a lower TOP compared to a run first offense. Looking at TOP blindly and using it as a measuring stick to determine the D's tire level is asinine. From start to finish.
WAITING FOR THE MOST ARGUMENTATIVENESS' REBUTTAL. I was gonna point that out. But thanks :breakdance:
http://www.thejetsblog.com/2011/11/26/junk-drawer-more-on-the-schotty-extension/ He's still getting fired. He isn't a good OC
Sure he CAN be fired but the fact that he got an extension leads some, including myself, to believe that the Jets staff don't see the ineptitude that most of us see. I really like Rex, but my one criticism of him is that he seems to be too loyal to guys regardless of their production. It's almost if he wants to TRY to win with his guys instead of getting guys that put you in position to win.I dont know if the blame goes to him,Tanny, or both. Either way,it's been crystal clear for a while that you cannot win a SB with Schotty as your OC. You cannot win with Eric Smith and Jim Leonhard as your safeties. So either they arent as smart as we thought OR they are being stubborn and negligent. This offseason will tell alot.
i dont understand. how does it shut people up? and tell qb to play like he belongs? da heck are you talking about?
The QB sucks. The coordinator sucks. The team isn't going anywhere with dumb and dumber leading the offense. But Schotty will get a 5year extension this off-season because the organization loves him for some stupid reason.
Of course Schotty should go, but this organization has already rewarded him with a great deal. This house cleaning will never happen under Mike Tannenbaum. Mr. T's bone-headed vision of the Jets does not translate onto the playing field. But nobody takes the hit around here. They're all doing a great job. Right, Woody? Another week of "I don't understand...", "We have to do better...". The post-game script has been the same since the days of Walt Michaels. I am sick of the re-runs. Now I'll be out there again tomorrow at MetLife Stadium, but I have zero confidence that this Jets team can put away anybody. They might have trouble beating the Pop Warner kids who play during halftime.
I just saw that as well. Schefter definitely said he was extended "through the 2013 season". If true, they might not be as quick to pull the plug on him.
I can actually understand extending him through 2012 if you have a policy where you don't want lame duck coaches, but if it is 2013, they are fucking retarded.
We are a more balanced team than many but we still pass more than we run, a run first team would be the 2009 NY Jets who ran it 607 times and passed it 393. This year we have thrown it 373 times and run it 290 times. The "brainfart" of the CS was a result of getting down big in games, the OL was awful and we COULDN'T run. Don't believe everything you read in the papers or on the internet. Watch the games and understand them, we couldn't run that first month and we fell behind w/ the exception of the jax game which- surprise!- we ran it more than we threw it. if we lost it in 4 of our 10 games, that means we won in 6 of 10(prior to yesterday), right? one of those games the difference was 7 seconds from being even. NE is a short passing game that controls the clock, it's almost an extension of the run game. They are not a quick strike offense where the opponent has a chance to control the clock.
How about Brad Childress? Reid still called all the plays but Childress was the quarterbacks coach and OC, when the Eagles were making conference finals like every year. Way back when McNabb was a pro-bowl caliber QB. He also has some prior history with Bill Callahan at Northern Arizona so there would be some continuity there. I see all these fire Schotty posts but is one out there about possible replacements?
there is one out there somewhere... the most popular candidates are the QB coaches of GB and NO, with the guy from Green Bay leading by a pretty good margin...
Schotty for the most part is fine. It's mostly BS, all this criticism of him, in most cases by people who want to pretend the Jets are better then they are and it's the coaches fault. Sanchez has been absolutely awful this season. His awful play ties Schotty's hand as far as play calling, along with the inconsistent play of the OL. I have never seen a OC, whose been to two straight Championship games, take the amount of BS this guy does. Some of the criticisms at times are fair but the overall crutch of using him as some reason the team is average this season is just nonsense. Case in point yesterday. He called a good game. They threw the ball down the field, they ran a nice amount of times, couple end arounds worked. Even that shovel pass, which didn't work, wasn't the worst idea in the world. Guy goes for 20 yards and no one is complaining. Just the fact that Sanchez threw 4 tds, while playing so awful, to me, that's good play calling in the red zone. Then you come on here today and you actually have some not only ignoring a good job outta him yesterday, but ACTUALLY SAYING THE OPPOSITE. Just ridiculous.
Funny that Josh "Genius" McDaniels is on the firing line in St. Louis for a terrible year with Sam Bradford as the Rams offense has been terrible this year and Bradford has taken a huge step back in Year 2. Ditto Freeman in Tampa Bay. The last offensive coordinator that we had that people actually liked was probably Joe Walton. Or maybe John Idzik.
