Roughing the passers are really only being called around the league right now with one of two things. 1. Blow to the head. 2. Blatent low hit (knees) AKA Brady Rule. Late hits are not typically being called this year
Brady takes PLENTY of uncalled shots too, but that late hit in the endzone should've drawn a flag, aside from that I didn't notice any blatant non calls, but someone suggesting it's a racial thing is beyond ridiculous
There is no consistency, I think as long as your name isn't James Harrison you'll get away with late/helmet on helmet hits. You have to play the referee though, I was taught that in rugby, even if someone makes a garbage call, you have to account for the ref not being so hot in certain areas of the game. It's not that Sanchez is being discriminated against, it's probably due to the poor standard of officiating.
I've always said that the altitude issue at Mile High is less of a big deal than people and the media make it out to be. Yes, the air is thinner, but that probably has more of an impact on kicks/throws and the flight of the ball than anything else. Generally speaking, people start noticing the effects of altitude at around 8,000 feet. Those effects become a lot more debilitating at around 10,000 feet. But it doesn't take the body a long time to adjust to that... only hours, not days, for most healthy people. It's really only when you're going higher than 15,000 feet that the acclimatization process is spread out over days and/or weeks (depending on how high you're eventually going). What's more of a BS deal for the Jets, IMO, was having to travel 2/3 of the way across the country after playing a Sunday night game. Even the few extra hours they would have gotten by having the Pats-Jets game at 1 pm or 4:15 pm would have made a difference, I think.
Funny, but when I arrived in SE Arizona, I felt the difference immediately and I was still active duty and in damn good shape. A 2 mile run certainly felt like more at 4900ft than it did at sea level to me. I'm not a professional athelete but I am pretty sure at the end of that game, the Jet D was absolutely gassed. Those runs they had to defend all game, coupled with the short rest and IMO, the altitude, wore the team down. I also think mentally, the offense took the defense out of the game with their ineptitude.
It's his job to get to the quarterback. If Pace or Westerman or Maybin hit a QB like that, you'd be perfectly fine with it.
After you fucking kidding me? Are you seriously presenting the argument that all 16 (or however many) referee crews are anti-Mexican? If Von Miller doesn't get a letter from the league and a deduction from his next check, it will be a goddamn travesty. But one thing has nothing to do with the other.
I disagree with you on this, I lived in Colorado Springs and my apartment was about 7000 feet above sea level. I was in my mid twenties and in pretty good shape yet within 2 days of arriving I was in the hospital with high altitude sickness. It effects everybody differently and my guess is a 300 LB lineman would probably have a more difficult time adjusting then a running back. That being said it's no excuse for them to lose that game. You have to dig deeper in the tank and quite honestly the Jets D showed absolutely no heart on that drive. I can't even count the missed tackles or blown assignments. Where I do agree with you is the NFL didn't do the Jets any favors, a Sunday night then a game a 3 hour flight away on Thursday. Once again however there is still no excuse for the poor play. The Broncos wanted it more and that's why the Jets are out of the playoff hunt and the Broncos have a shot at winning the AFC West.
Late hits perhaps, but the only thing I noticed was the blatant use of a "helmet first" contact to his back. several times.
I was going to avoid the board for about a week, but I really wanted to talk about those hits. BOTH were blatant penalties. We played like shit but those penalties would have changed the L to a W. And Tebow can lick the (insert CB4 reference here). Could there have been any more Broncos fans at the casino last night? I was lit enough that I almost threw down. Glad I didn't of course.
I personally didn't have any complaints with the no-call on those hits on Sanchez. Just because Von Miller hits hard doesn't make it a penalty. You guys are complaining for exactly what is the problem with this league. Every week people talk about how the league is getting soft and you're complaining for a roughing the passer on completely legitimate hits?
If the league is getting soft it should be equal for everybody. We want the call because we know most times that call would go against us.
I think both of those hits fit the roughing definition in the rule book. The thing I look for is the defensive player lowering his head before the hit. Whether or not it would have turned the game, I have my doubts. It's not like the Jets were moving the ball well.
