Horrible play-call because it was risky without needing to be. Of course, i think an DEFENSIVE coordinator has a reasonable expectation that his outside blitzers know their baseline responsibilities (edge contain). Eric Smith highlight reel intro right there on that play: He's neither a high talent guy, a good instints guy, or a football smart player. He's a f-ing muscle head who belongs on special teams only. Leonard is marginal as well-- we have the weakest Safety talent pool in the NFL.
9-20, 104 Did you watch the game......... we're not interested in your Tebow man love. Yes, he's a baller, but how about some reality
I watched every game. The reality of the matter is, Tebows scheme is dragging Tebows stats into the ground. Waiting till the beef package is on the sideline to throw it, going three and out on three straight runs up the gut, refusing to pass it on 1st down, I can go on and on and on to describe just how pathetic the scheme is in regards to helping Tebow develope chemistry with his receivers. Fox has got to have the worst passing scheme in the league. To try and make Tebow out to be a horrible passer as a result of having to carry this scheme against the Jets is laughable IMO.
The only thing more painful to watch than that pathetic excuse for an offense called the New York Jets, was watching Tebow throw. He was horrible. Scheme my ass...
@ Miamipuck, in regards to your prediciton that tebow is a gimmick and will only be around 3 years, this is what the owner of the Broncos said last night: Broncos owner Pat Bowlen was heading for a different exit door when he stopped long enough to declare that Tebow would be his man for many moons to come. "He's a quarterback, and believe me he's going to learn," Bowlen said. "I believe he'll be a great one. Better keep him around."
Probably because he didn't know the answer, Pettine is calling the defense now, he didn't want to throw his guy under the bus.
Rex seemed disgusted when asked about that play call.. kind of gave the impression it was not him who called it, but rather Pettine. Who knows though. The problem, as usual, was that Eric Smith absolutely sucks and totally fucked up the play.. I watched the replay a few times and I have no clue what the fuck he was doing. The WHOLE play hinged on him containing on the outside, Tebow was looking at him pre-snap, during the snap, the whole play to see if he'd set the edge and of course he didn't, so Tebow just ran around him. Eric Smith fucking sucks.
Let me reiterate...........Perhaps I wasn't clear. He sucks, he is a gimmick QB, in a gimmick offense. How long do gimmick offenses last in the NFL? I was being generous with the 3 years. The Dolphins made the playoffs running the wild cat, where are they now? It isn't a long term answer. The only reason anyone likes him is because of the god squad nonsense. He can't make any of the passes a pro QB needs to make. Why am I replying to this nonsense is my next question.
Nobody mentioned Cro on that play - At least Wilson was in the corner of the end zone actually being blocked but Cro was playing patty-cake in the end zone actually watching the fucking play happen and does NOTHING to try and shed the block and make a play. Watch the replay closely, HE COULD HAVE MADE A PLAY and stopped him at the goal line. Jesus, this just infuriates me further.
Eric Smith's abominations continue to allow Leonhard to escape the major critisizm that he deserves also. He is trash too. Small, slow, cant cover, cant hit anyone.
Troll somewhere else, like a Pats board. You trolls are all the same, Jets fan: Makes a declarative statement that is true. Troll: I know you are but what is Sanchez. Wash, rinse, repeat. You too can die in a fire.
What was cromartie doing? if you watch when Tebow ran in, Cromartie just stood their and let Tebow score. Wtf was that shit.
I haven't even read the OP here, but I this is where I think the blame lies...ERIC SMITH. How do you blow an assignment to contain the outside knowing you have a great runner in Tebow? He took a route to the inside like a jackass and slipped trying to back out. This guy is terrible, he's been burned so many times this year, can't cover, and is nothing but a smaller linebacker who can lay a hit on defenseless players. He gave up a huge first down on that game winning drive and has been nothing short of poor for most of the season. If Eric Smith is starting next season, I will lose my mind.
it was a stupid call but Cromartie....Cromartie looked like he could of easily broken away and tackle Tebow and he didnt. He once again looks lazy when someone is running towards him. This guy in my opinion is way overrated. His covering skills suck and yeah, hes still afraid of contact.
^^^ I seen it LIVE and surprised many arent talking about it. Cromartie is a straight up bitch. That chip on his shoulder really is a grain of salt.
It depends on the "gimmick". The 46 and the West Coast offense are still around to this day. As we saw with the Jets on that last play, some NFL players apparently still have trouble covering the option (and some corners don't like to tackle). Please. I'm not at all religious and I like Tebow. He's a likable guy, I enjoy "gimmicks" (I even liked the wildcat), plus I like rooting for underdogs. As for the "God Squad" if anything that makes him hated by those with an irrational dislike for any Christian that expresses their faith openly. Feel free to compare his numbers with Mike Vick's first few starts/games where he saw significant action. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5448/gamelog;_ylt=Ap7vxSIWxpEoFO3AFzdMbf3.uLYF?year=2001 Gee, I see a whole bunch of games where he was under 50% in completion percentage. I see a lot of "L"s too. In fact, here are Mike Vick's completion percentage numbers: year 1: 44% year 2: 54% year 3: 50% Tebow year 1 was at 50%. Right now he's at 44%. The media had a boner for Vick in his first few years despite subpar numbers and accuracy at Tebow levels. So why is the media coverage of the two so drastically different?
