schotty came out firing and then they just dialed it down and gave them a huge break. guys were barely getting open, the line sucked, and the things he does to account for these problems dont work. things looked like they might be shaping up to at least being a competent offense but he shit the bed and proved how bad he really is. i hope the team can pull it together and grab a wildcard spot, or maybe the pats can play an actual offense a couple times and lose a few games. who knows maybe the bills will rally and beat the pats again. things could still go our way, but the offense needs a radical change at this point
I'd just like to know how that no-name secondary with 2 people who didn't even have soundbites in their intros managed to actually cover the Jets in their 5 wides all night. I was hearing everybody was covered out of the announcers over and over again. How is that possible? The Pats had absolute garbage in the secondary and nobody could get open? Brian Schottenheimer isn't just a mediocre offensive coordinator he's the curse that is holding the Jets back right now. He can't game plan for his life and never has been able to do that. The only time the Jets have looked good was in his first year, when they were actually mediocre on offense and only looked good compared to the Brooks Bollinger fiasco of the year before, when he had a healthy Brett Favre telling him to go fuck himself and doing what he wanted to do, and when the offense has been dumbed down to 11 yards and a cloud of dust. I'm so pissed off at the missed opportunities over the years at this point and most of them can be laid at the feet of a guy who thinks he's good at what he does but actually blows chunks unless he's planning against a weak defense. Even against weak defenses he loses games at times that are inconceivable.
sanchez isnt the best quarterback in the league right now, hes certainly not the worst though. if you dont let a guy at least try then how are we supposed to take the coordinator, who has never had a good year, for his word that he is only calling plays that sanchez can make. situational play calling is shit, mark isnt reading defenses well, recievers arent in position to make plays, the offense has no balls. the entire game the pats were begging us to throw it all over the place, and what happens? protection completely breaks down and the offense can barely do anything about it. marks getting sacked again, lineman arent getting up field so runs are held short. so much is going wrong, you cannot blame the qb
Schottenheimer was somewhat predictable, but when he dialed up deep routes Sanchez either missed badly (overthrows mostly), the Receiver cut off the route (Keller twice). Or Sanchez checked down. The Patriots mostly played very conservative on D, rarely brought DBs, rushed 4 occasionally brought 5. The thing that I thought was the worst was Sanchez's recognition at the line. He missed the blitzes a few times, and he checked out of a lot of runs. I'd say at least 10 times Sanchez audibled out of runs because he thought he saw something that wasn't there.
The bottom line is that Sanchez is a mediocre QB and Schotty is a mediocre-at-best OC. Schotty will likely be the fall guy and will go after this season, and then we'll waste at least another season learning what we all should know already- that Sanchez will never be a high-end QB, and we will continue to be title-free as long as this particular QB plays on a team designed to win now.
Has there ever been a time when Schottenheimer was good? I don't know why he keeps getting a free pass.
no but he certainly doesnt talk to his guys during the game and find out whats going wrong and what should be done to fix it
My beef with Schottenheimer is how little they use Keller. The kid has the same skillset as Aaron Hernandez and the only use they have for him is to be a blocker because the O-line can't keep two journeyman DE's (Carter and Anderson) out of the backfield. As for Sanchez,he's just not progressing. He reminds me of Alex Smith. Both have good arms and are pretty good athletically. But they just don't make enough plays and prone to bonehead mistakes.
The Jets will not win anything as long as shotty is oc. The 1st two plays were passes. The team went from physical to finess. I'm sure the pats were really happy to know it was going to be a air it out game instead of a groung and pound game. What a contradiction. Fire shotty and hire Callahan for OC. It is the only real chance Sanchez has to get to the next level.
Fuck it, how could it hurt? Schotty has needed to be gone like 4 years now or more. I don't care that he is Marty's son. How many rings did Marty get?
The issue I see is that our OC sucks and our QB isn't very good. Both can be good in spurts but neither have ever shown enough consistency to ever be labeled good. It boils down to Sanchez can't hit receivers in stride. How many times do Plax, and Tone bail him out? Think about it? The best throw Sanchez made all season was the 38 yard pass to Kerley tonight when the Pats basically laid down. He has happy feet, is looking to scramble instead of get his feet set and find an open guy to throw it to. Even the ball that Greene had bounce away only to be picked was thrown high. Ninkovich or whatever that asshole's name is said it in the post game tonight, I knew where he was going the whole time because I was watching his eyes. He locks on a guy and doesn't look away. He still is playing like a rookie and with a guy like Brunell on the bench he'll never feel the pressure of having somebody waiting behind him trying to take away his job. Maybe that's what he needs, us to bring in somebody who is hungry enough to try and take his job from him. My biggest issue with Schotty tonight was this, you have a defense with how many nobodies in the secondary? Why the fuck are we not running plays where there are guys in motion or different sets that those guys would have never seen before to confuse them? The guy can't hack it, there is no deception, no creativity and just an overall lack of ability. Some guys are good Monday through Friday coaches and suck on Sunday. I don't even think he is a good M-F coach because the offense never looks ready to play. The old saying was the first 20 plays are scripted and it never looks that way with this team. They look as confused now as they did in week 1. If the problem hasn't fixed itself by now it's not going to get fixed. We may be good enough to slide into the playoffs but when I look at this offense I see a team with no character and no heart. Yes individual guys have those but as a unit they don't. That falls on two people, Callahan and the OC. Those willing and ready to anoint Callahan as the next OC what the hell about this guy has impressed you this year? Our OL is as bad as it's been in a long long time. Hunter isn't any good, Ducasse still sucks and now Brick is getting eaten up by a guy who hasn't played a game nearly as good as he did tonight since the early 2000's.
As usual if we lose it must be the OC's fault! not all the dumb penalties, the sacks, the poor throws, the poor reads it's all on the OC.
Schotty's main problem is that he doesn't react or adapt in a positive way. That being said, if we're going to have Sanchez take such short drops, then he has to get rid of the ball faster and be more decisive. He can't sit there, three yards back, and wait plays develop. That's how unknowns get 4.5 sacks Why not let him take deeper drops?
lol, same ole same ole. we've been hearing this sh*t for years with the previous OC's. it's always the OC and not the guys on the field. OC's can't go out there and block, run the ball or pass it, the players do that. i remember when all the posts were about noodle arm pennington being a franchise qb and the OC was holding him back. same story now, different characters. fact is, noodle arm pennington was an average qb and so is sanchez. all the green koolaid on earth can't make sanchez into what he's not, an elite or franchize qb. this team will go as far as the defense can take it. this offense couldn't produce against the worst defense in football in two meeting this year. how blind or stupid does one have to be to see the offense is the achillies of this team. so goes the defense, is how good this team is going to be. the offense sucks and it's naive to believe it's just the CO's fault!
you dont have to cover 5 jets when the jets go 5 wide, because its going to be a 2 yard pass to a HB/FB/TE in one second on the first read for a minimal gain. you dont even need to cover outside the hashmarks when we show you that look, and teams know this.
yes.... he does. by not adding additional blockers to help our protections schemes, and by settng up mismatches for the defense(like the 3 times he asked mulligan to block carter) you can say "the qb sucks" or "the line sucks" but that is the whole point of being an OC. putting players in position to succeed, minimizing their weakness, and exploiting the opponents weakness. Our weaknesses: -short quick passes, as sanchez isnt super accurate on those short touch throws -pass protection on the strong side so what do we do? we call a TON of 5 wide, where there is no strong side help in pass protection, and a ton of short pass plays. pats weaknesses: -pass coverage, especially in the secondary -run defense from their sub packages so what do we do? REFUSE to attack their secondary, or run when they go nickel.
