Agreed. Schotty is calling a gem. It's too bad that next week he will dial up a triple reverse flea flicker on 3rd and 1.
He's called a great game..Sanchez has been making some shaky throws though. Good day thus far by the WR
There were a few Shotty moments today but all in all a nice day of playcalling... I like the fact that even when Everyone of the Mark bashers came out the playcalling opened back up after Buffalo scored. They initially went into a shell but then came back throwing even after establishing the run all game. Also noticing that Keller was a total mismatch. That IMO is a big hats off to Shotty
His usual retardation showed up at the end of the game. At least he's only pulling that shit with a comfortable lead.
Once again, when the offensive line plays great Schottenheimer looks like a genius. The playcalling's never been as bad as many around here act. When Sanchez has time, we look great. When he doesn't, we can't do anything.
And he did a really good job mixing it up. And the big thing was calling some designed shots deep down the field to keep the defense honest. Today he got Sanchez into a nice groove early and mixed up the run game nicely. I'm as big a critic of Shotty as anyone, but today he had a great plan. No question about it.
The offense looks much better on plays when the snap happens with double figures left on the play clock and much worse when it happens with under 5. I wonder why that is? Also the remark by Simms today that he knew a run was coming because Patrick Turner was in the game speaks volumes about the Jets predictability.
Problem with Schotty is that he does not gameplan like this every week. Today I saw alot of unpredictable plays...As long as there is a balanced flow and it creates uncertainty on the opposing defense we should be ok
We ran one late. But, the best game he's called in his tenure....Looks like he's finally learned Mark is allowed to throw the ball inside in less than 4 seconds. They should have hung 40 yesterday, if not for the early mistakes.
I couldn't agree more, and it really proves definitively, that Nick Mangold is one of the most valuable players in the NFL.
no idiot, dont you know that Schotty has been going to night school for the last month taking play-calling lessons?
It wasn't just Mangold though, Wayne Hunter was struggling and Brandon Moore missed all of camp. The OL even w/ Nick was struggling early but as he got healthy, Moore got healthy and Hunter improved this OL is looking pretty darn good.
Callahan, as running game coordinator, designs the running plays And it's interesting how efficient the O looks when WRs aren't dropping easy catchable passes, Mangold is back to solidify the OL, Mulligan and Hunter aren't committing drive killing penalties, and Sanchez isn't making stupid decisions, locking onto 1 WR and stops throwing into double coverage.
The health of the o-line is an obvious positive effect on the O, but Schotty did a good job of calling a balance game, and attacking what the defense was giving him....... which he has often done the opposite. A few quick downfield strikes helped open some running room. overall good game, and refreshing to see. :jets:
To be sure, the loss of Mangold was a factor, but had he called the same game over the 3 game skid, as he did yesterday, we'd have picked up a game or two. Getting the ball out of Sanchez' hands quickly, is a good thing. But...Mason is now gone, Kerley looks good there, and Mangold is back, and hopefully Sunday night, Rex will be talking like Hannibal Smith after the game.
