.500 is the definition of mediocre. who cares who their losses were against? they were a .500 team each season which is mediocre. The Colts had a better record than Cleveland but LOST to Cleveland during the reg season. Not only did Oak have a better record but they beat us. PLUS we got a week off as Oak and KC battled to see who would face us, Bal & Cle won playoff games the week before. We all love the Jets, we all appreciate '68 but can we be honest and say the jets had an easy path? Just 3 winning teams all year and we lost to 2 awful teams during the reg season. The Pats prevented us from winning div titles and having easier roads, yeah we onlyfaced them once but if we don't have NE to deal w/ we get many home playoff games which makes the road much easier. This era is w/o question the best just like 1968 is w/o question the best year.
It isn’t black and white. The Oilers were a good team that weren’t good enough to beat the best teams. They had a good defense and a solid running game. They were better than their record would indicate. What difference does its path make. That’s the only era of Jets who ever brought us a Championship. The recent teams were never as good as that team and were unable to bring home a SB. That era was the best in Jets history simply because of that fact.
a .500 team is not a good team under any circumstances. They are average/mediocre. you are going to compare them to the Pats of the last decade? In '68 the best team Houston beat was 5-8-1 Miami(and they also lost to them as well). In '69 the best team Houston beat was 5-8-1 Denver(and they also tied them another game). Houston wasn't good yet they made the playoffs going 6-6-2 in 1969 where they lost in a nailbiter 56-7. If we were awarded the championship game at home the last 2 years maybe we'd have a SB title? the '68 team didn't earn homefield just like we didn't the last 2 years.
Whose comparing them to the Pats? The Oilers were a better team than their record indicates. They were an above average team that could not compete with the league’s elite. I’m certain I’ve been pretty clear about this. In ’68 they lost to the Dolphins when their starting QB went out 3 days earlier due to an emergency appendectomy. The Colts didn’t have the home game either but they still won. Late 60’s era gave us a SB Title. The last decade has not. The late 60’s is the superior era.
They were exactly what their record indicated, they were .500 2 straight years- that is mediocrity. I don't care about the excuses, they were a .500 team. But the Colts lost to Cle earlier, we had a worse record and lost to oak yet we hosted them AND they ahd to play an extra playoff game- could it have been set up any better for us? '68 superior to any single year, the 60s era produced only 2 postseason apps and only 2 postseason wins. 1960-1980- 2 postseasons, 2 postseason wins.
And they won the division in 1967. They were better than a .500 team. Yeah, why let facts get in the way? You say you don’t care about excuses but you’ve given plenty of them. we had the Pats in our division. the Raiders had to play the Jets in NY or the Raiders had to play the Chiefs the week before But but but but. The Colts had to travel to Cleveland and still won. The Raiders had the lead late against us so that excuse doesn’t fly either. Late 60’s with a SB Title outranks a decade where zero SB Titles were won.
Did U think that EVERY year you do not win the SB your are medicore just like that other 30 teams who did not win it? That is what the difference between the 68 NYJs & any other team the NYJs have EVER fielded is different:jets:
Unfortunately for you we are discussing '68 & '69 where they went .500 each season. '67 is as relevant as '70 where they went 3-10-1 or '63-'74 where they had exactly ONE winning season in all those years. They were not better than a .500 team, they were a .500 team- Medicore. Those aren't excuses those are facts. Excuses are taking things that didn't happen like saying a team that was .500 for 2 straight years was better than .500 when clearly they weren't. '68 #1 season, current era #1 era. 1960-1980- 2 playoff apps, 2 playoff wins 2001-2010- 6 playoff apps, 6 playoff wins
Really? I’m fairly certain I included the 1967 season as the late 60’s. In 1968 the Oilers were the defending AFL East champions. The Oilers were a better team than their record indicates in 1968. Those ARE excuses because the FACTS are that the Jets WON the SUPER BOWL in the late 60’s and DID NOT in the last decade thus making the late 60’s our best era.
The best Jet team is 1968-1969. Next i'd say the Parcells team of 1998. Then the Jets of 2010. Then the Jets of 1981-1982. The biggest difference between Rex's Jet teams and Walt Michaels Jets teams, is that under Rex, the Jets win the the close game, the Jets seem to get the good bounce. Under Michaels, the Jets would lose numerous games at the end, seemed to never get the good bounce. I love those Jet teams but they were better on paper then they played. Always were up their in penalties, million holding calls on Ward. Always the big injury. Rex's Jet teams seem to overachieve alot more.
But the discussion about us making the playoffs is about '68 & '69 when Houston was .500 each season. who cares if they were defending div champs? what does that mean? Seattle is defending NFC West champs- are they bette than their record b/c of it? I haven't disputed that we won the SB in '68 and haven't lately. The excuses are Hou had injuries, they were better than .500(even though there is nothing to prove that),... The bottom line is we had an easy road in '68 and took advantage. '68 is the best season but that era saw one season where they won a playoff game, this era is better.
We'll know very soon. Two must win divisional games coming up, one at home. This is where we start our run.
Really so make it the whole 60s era & give us the answer vs the current era that you extoll so greatly:jets:
1960-1969: 2 playoff seasons 2 playoff wins 3 winning seasons won playoff games in only ONE season 2001-2010 6 playoff seasons 6 playoff wins 4 div rd apps 2 title game apps won playoff games in 4 different seasons This era has been better
