    we don't need a safety

    if we get a good one, he will probably make a big play but will be called for PI by Mike Fatsessa and Jon Gruden and it won't count

    This in a nutshell. He's fine as a 3rd safety but he's not starting caliber.

    Smith couldn't cover a paper-cut, it's annoying. Safety has to be a priority in the off-season, be it by the draft or free agency,

    takemehomekerryrhodes?

    Smith & leonard should be back. Pool I'm 50/50 on.

    Maybe a corner converted to safety?

    Smith's role is a LB/DB. He is not great at covering, but the role he is assigned he's pretty good at. My problem with the safety position, and I agree it needs to be upgraded, is Leonard. He makes no plays and has missed a tremendous amount of tackles. There is little speed at that position.

    There is no reason for us NOT to draft a safety next April. Plenty of options in the appropriate rounds to find a capable safety;

    3rd round - Delano Howell - Stanford
    4th round -
    Aaron Henry - Wisconsin
    Trenton Robinson - Michigan St.
    Winston Guy Jr. - Kentucky

    This is an incredibly weak safety class. Any other year, almost all of those players would be late rounders.

    We need to address the position through free agency. This isn't the year to draft a safety.
