we sucked a hell of a lot more in 02. we were 1-4 and 2-5. This team can not ever be 2-5. Hell we played infinitely better teams this year to start than we did in 02. We can certainly make the playoffs, but we have to play better starting immediately on offense. We are going to need help early on if we want to make a run, our offense is not going to be clicking for real, for some time. We need the D to play well, and Joe Mcknight to continue to break opportunistic returns for us. we need the short field for this anemic offense.
I don't fear San Diego being great, I fear the Jets being terrible. If we show up with a Miami effort against a team with a legit QB, it's an ugly thing. SAR I
Redskins Jets @ Cowboys @ Dolphins @ Jets To be irrelevant, the Bills need to go 2-5 in that stretch. The Skins and Dolphins are gimmies, Cowboys is a coin-toss. Clearly it's up to us to slay the dragon that is the 2011 Buffalo Bills. Because the end of their schedule looks like this: Titans @ Chargers Dolphins Broncos @ Patriots I see 3-2 there at worst, and remember that if the Patriots lock up the division by Week 16 they'll lay down like dogs to keep the Jets out if that's what it comes to, letting the Bills go 4-1 in that stretch. Sweeping the Bills is an imperative as we could fight like mad and get that 10th win and miss the wildcard to the 11 win Bills. SAR I
Wait...first you label the Bills as a 6-1 team after 6 weeks of the season (in which they've already had their bye), and now you suggest that they should somehow go 2-5 over a 5 game stretch? Clearly you didn't become "wealthy" of your own accord. On the bright side, if your predictions came true, the Bills would have the league's first ever 9-9 or 10-8 regular season record. It all depends on the game you're neglecting to mention, let alone predict.
You are dead wrong on that, sir. Talent on paper means very little if it doesn't work effectively on the field. Ask Philly. If your play-calling, ie game plan, is faulty game after game, it frequently means that your coaching staff is not accurately evaluating what the opponent does well and what their own team does well. It can also mean that the coaching staff is wedded to a particular philosophy and bullheadedly refuses to change even when the philosophy fails. In what game was the Jets game plan and play calling superior to the opposition? Certainly not against the Ravens, Raiders or Pats. Maybe not the rest of them either. As for poor execution, that can be an excuse in an occasional game, but when it happens again and again, it's another sign of poor coaching. The Chargers have an explosive offense that the current Jets D may not be able to handle while the Jets have a terrible offense that doesn't require a great D to stop it. It frequently stops itself. Not a good combo, I'm afraid.
How can you call him dead wrong and then go on to elaborate on his exact point? He said the playcalling was at fault (ie the coaching), not the talent on the field. Thank you for restating his point in more thorough fashion.
In 02 we made a major change at QB and went from dismal play at the position to stellar play at the position. I'm not going to beat the Chad to death again but in 02 he was healthy and infinetly better than Sanchez. As much as it pains me to say this our OC at the time actually ran an offense suited to Chad.
i don't disagree the 02 team made a miraculous change. But Dorrow's point was to say we are dead in the water at .500 6 games in. Then he compared this team to 02's. I was refuting the claim saying we cant possibly start that poorly, so we have time to turn it around. If our offense gets its head out its ass (whatever the problem, shotty/sanchez/OL/receivers/whatever) we can see a streak of wins put together. the question in 02 was can Chad give us a much needed spark? in 11 the question is can our offense get up to pace with the preseason expectations?
I was responding to a poster who felt that they would implode. I disagree. Was making the case that there's no way the Bills would slide to 2-5 in their next 7. Reading is fundamental. Try it some time. SAR I
Considering you couldn't read his post correctly, I think it's something *you* should work on. you missed the point entirely. I guess making 30k posts has an effective on eye sight.
R. Morin implied that poor play-calling and poor execution were a game by game problem, that sometimes it could be better than others, but that talent remains constant. That might be theoretically true but it's certainly not true about the Jets. They have been plagued by poor play-calling going back to last season. They have been plagued by poor execution in most of their games this season. Talent also is not constant, even theoretically, as players get injured. Any coach can get out-coached in a game. Any coach can come up with a faulty game plan to attack a team in one game. However, when poor play-calling happens in game after game, that says that the coach's fundamental offensive or defensive philosophy is wrong for the talent that he has available and is facing, and becomes a constant. With the Jets, the poor playcalling is simply a reflection of treating the offense as a lesser unit that has as its job to not lose the game. This lack of offensive punch has been a problem for the Jets throughout Ryan's tenure. It's just worse now because the defense is simply not as dominant as it was the previous years.
