THIS. Hell yea, I'd take two number ones for Sanchez are you kidding me? problem is no one would offer that.
He is on one of the worst teams in the league, Sanchez has EVERYTHING a young QB can ask for and he has still shown himself to be inferior to Bradford. Bradford was throwing passes to Amendola last season, Sanchez was throwing passes to super bowl MVP santonio holmes and Braylon who are both eons better than anything the Rams had, not to mention cotchery and keller who are better than anything the Rams have. I would take Bradford over Sanchez any day of the week because Bradford at least shows he has command of the game, I have NEVER seen Sanchez change the pace of the game on his own, never seen him dictate to a defense, never seen him impose his will on the defense. I have seen this in Bradford, STafford, and Freeman... even Newton. Only in New York do we raise our QBs up to a position beyond reproach because we are too afraid of what it looks like to crown a guy savior and then take him down. If Sanchez was in any other city, the debate would be raging over whether or not a new QB is needed. But in New York, that doesn't happen for some reason.
Which new York are you talking about, the debate on Sanchez started 2.5 yrs ago and has raged ever since?
It takes homerism to a new a level when the absurdity of the thread title is deemed to be the idea of trading Sanchez and not the idea that someone would offer two 1st round draft picks for him.
Nobody is gonna offer two firsts for Sanchez at this point. He really needs to get to a level above where he is now for that to happen. The only team numb enough to do something like this has no 1st round picks left because they gave up two for a "retired" QB yesterday.
SANCHEZ SUCK!!! I would take that trade in a heartbeat. Although, right now, as much as I can't stand Sanchez, I think I'd tolerate him more, after I traded Shottenwhatever for even a bag lunch. Is it just me? or are the Jets consistently one of the few NFL teams that executes pass plays that consistently come up short of the first down marker. WTF??? I long for the days of Vinny, dropping 5 steps and getting the protection to throw the ball 20 to 30 yds per pass play. Some were intercepted, some were incomplete. A lot were complete, but one could actually sit and watch the Jets play football.
Not just NY. In Boston they overrate players constantly, then tear them down when they don't live up to inflated expectations.
So true - but he's "injury prone" so we don't want him. And to think we could've gotten Josh Freeman...
I think there are some Sanchez homers here, to be sure. But for myself and probably some others the problem with the OP's question is timing. Taking two #1 picks essentially means giving up on this season. Even a straight replacement changing Sanchez out for, say, Bradford would be at least somewhat problematic in terms of getting the new guy up to speed in the system. But that's easier than doing what? Have Brunell be the Qb the rest of the year? If this were a theoretical post for what might have happened going into this year this past off season, that might have been an interesting question. Or if the Jets do not make the playoffs this year, for the upcoming off season. But for right now, giving up on this season makes the OP's question just too problematic to get one's head around.
I think the thread/question was based purely on the Carson Palmer trade that happened yesterday, not so much to do with where the Jets are at right now. The thing about building around a QB effectively is to have some stability and familiarity over the long haul, not to give up on the guy after a couple of bad games, trade him for picks and start the whole process over again. Draft another guy and then give up on him after a couple bad games, that's what losing franchises do, not good ones.
Then after Luck has a bad game everyone want to trade him for the Next Big thing and the cycle of garbage continues.
This thread is a really good tool to sift out which Jets fans are retarded and know nothing about football.
Some people will never be happy. Other people have no clue what reality is actually like. Most people want instant gratification. So like you said, the debate as to whether Mark Sanchez was actually the QB to take the Jets to a Super Bowl began two and a half years ago, before he had ever played a down for the Jets. The debate raged in full fury after he had made all of 8 starts for them as a 22 year old rookie. The people on the negative side of the debate would only have been made happy by having either Dan Marino or Peyton Manning in their rookie seasons as the Jets QB. Good luck to them with ever finding that. By definition they will be unhappy about the Jets QB situation and looking at other greener pastures for the rest of their lives. The people on the negative side of the debate would have thrown John Elway, Terry Bradshaw, Drew Brees, JIm Plunkett, Troy AIkman and a host of other great QB's under the bus because they weren't living up to unrealistic expectations from the get-go. Those same people would likely have thrown Dan Marino and Peyton Manning under the bus after a few playoff losses early on. Nothing like not having your need for instant gratification fulfilled. Those same people say that Sanchez fails the test as a good NFL QB because he is still erratic at times in his third season, a full season before Aaron Rodgers ever hit the field. The debate is about nihilism more than anything else. The people who think Sanchez is not good enough have no plausible replacement in mind for him. They'd like to draft somebody who might be better. They'd like to trade for another team's castoff QB because that might be better. They want anything but what they have at the moment even though what they have is demonstrably better when it really counts than anybody they've had for 40-odd years. It's just insane at this point.
