Come on. No one is defending Schotty but we are mostly 3 and out because we can not execute. Sanchez is playing poorly, lacks confidence, way too much indecision, and is impacting the whole offense. Couple that with the fact that when he throws a good pass the receivers drop it. Yesterday he had plenty of time and he either rushed the passes or miss the receivers by a mile. Against a better D we would have had a hell of a time. We can keep pushing the Schotty button all day long but its the players that need to step it up and it starts with Mark. Granted, better play calling would help, but it is hard to do when we cannot even execute the basic plays well. Too me he looks afraid out there and lacking confidence to lead this team.
That was going to be my rebuttal as well. I don't mind the Jets not scoring on the opening drive, but at least gain 35 yards and have the punt hit at the very least the 20 so that field position can be established. If the Jets return game wasn't as good as it is, and the offense started deeper in their own territory, the opposing offense would have great field position on their next drive early in the game. This is the issue. Its a mix of both execution and playcalling, but how it hasn't even been fixed in 3 years is beyond me. Maybe, for one game, don't script anything. Go by feel on the opening drive. I'm just throwing out suggestions here because this offense is a UFL offense when it comes to the opening drive.
How is this not on Schotty though? Did I sleep through the meeting where we decided that managers are not responsible for the performance of the people underneath them in executing the plans they have decided to use?
im going to preface this by saying that i cant stand shotty and i think his play designs are avg at best however, last night was not on shotty outside of the hb pass (which is really a first down after a t.o. type of play, imo) the playcalling early was not bad at all the designs early in the game were to attack the deep parts of the defense ... the problem was that sanchez had happy feet after 5 weeks of getting pressure from every angle and was almost immediately throwing to his checkdown ... if he trusted his protection there were a number of big plays that would have developed. one that stands out was a double move up the seam by keller once sanchez realized that he had time he got into a rhythm and so did the offense solid job by shotty this week
I totally agree with this and one of the things the OC can do is get rid of the check down so Sanchez is forced to set his feet and man up.
What database were you looking at? I can hook you up play by play prior to 2005 if you need it. Shoot me a PM.
Exactly. Whether it's his fault or not, the end product is consistently poor and a change is required. Start at the top and work your way down. It's easier and cost effective.
but how does it work that when we struggle it's all the OCs fault then when we have success(last night from the last drive of the 1st half through the end of the game we had a successful night) the OC doesn't get any credit?
Everyone needs to build on this game. The only call I hated was the HB pass and that's a play that is always gonna be hated when it doesn't work. Everyone finally got into a bit of a rhythm and I think that started with the line. They did a good job blocking for Sanchez all night and he finally realized he didn't need to fear for his life and all of a sudden we actually got to witness some offense. The complete lack of anything the last few games was a huge problem and if the offense goes 3 and out for half the game next week it will be trouble. At this point I think the second half went a long way towards getting things on the right track heading into next week. Everyone should be feeling good. It is schotty's job to keep that momentum going in the right direction by getting something going early in the game.
No, I just want people to be fair. Our O is struggling and there are many people to pass the blame around to. I think it's most the OL and QB, b/c the Ol was so bad and Mark got so beat up he was tentative. I think on that drive at the end of the 1st half he looked normal again for really the first time in weeks. The OL is playing better, the running game is making a little progress and now the QB is looking better(based on that last drive of the 1st half through the end of the game). The O is going to be fine, I still worry more about the D. We are a D first team and our D is not playing well(even last night when we held Miami to 6).
Ok, but that is not bad play calling for Pete's sake. Is he ultimately responsible for the Offense yes, and so is Rex. However, we are stuck with Sanchez and right not his fears and happy feet arekilling us. I will agree that the leadership needs to get that corrected, but play calling is not a direct contributor.
We'll have to agree to disagree on Schotty, junc. He's been fucking up game plans for too long now. In my opinion, he doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt anymore. Next week will be a good litmus test to see where this team REALLY is, offensively and defensively.
Can't stand to see one more incompletion on 1st down and run for 1 yard on 2nd down when everybody knows your going to run and set the kid up to fail with 3rd and 9 situations...
It's one thing to say Schotty was not a root cause for a particular bad game by the offense or any game in general, it is a whole other ballgame, to defend his body of work. In 6 years, it is safe to say, you know what you have in Schotty. Mediocre to bad schemes, play design and offense taken in it's entirety, isn't going to cut it for this team like the prior 2 years. He is a large part of the malaise that effects the offense, how can you argue otherwise?
But play calling is a direct contributor to the problem. It's just not a problem that occurred very often last night when the Jets were playing a hapless team that they could have beaten while sleep-walking the whole game.
Ok... since bitching after win seems like a taboo here, I will just show my gripe here. Jets offense inherited a lot of absolutely fantastic field positions (50 yards and shorter) - to my count, Jets started at the half line twice in the 4th quarter, at 4 minute mark on the second one, nonetheless. 1. They fail to score. What else is new anyway? Field position meant shit of this offense so far this season. They rarely capitalize on those fantastic field positions. 2. 4 minute drill. You needed to produce ONE fucking 1st down - and you fail. SDF folks blame the Schottenheimer haters for being completely bipolar, but I see the same vice from SDF as well - poor execution can account for so much fuck-ups. If the players are consistently failing at their job, you have to ask the question: is it the players? is it the discipline issue? is it the design? If you look at the tendencies of offense failing, you'd find nearly same issues all over even pre-Sanchez era. Yet I again get to hear why Schottenheimer is NOT to blame. Jesus fucking Christ. Good riddance!
I'm not getting off the shotty needs to go wagon. Regardless he is a total nightmare for this team and more so for sanchez! I can't wait for the day he is gone
The ENTIRE offense needs to pick it up. The problems run deeper than any one issue/player/coach, etc. You can't really defend Schotty anymore as he is what he is right now and is not going anywhere this season. Immediate improvements will have to come from Sanchez being more accurate, the O Line improving, and Plaxico/Santonio catching the damn ball. Greene needs to find some type of vision to hit cutback lanes as well. The lanes are there as LT has found a few but just doesn't have the burst anymore to exploit them for big yardage. Maybe McKnight can provide that cutback ability if he gets some touches. It would help if maybe once in a while Greene can break a freakin' tackle as well and pick up a few more yards. Last 3 games they have had 37 possessions. 21: 3 and out WITHOUT a first down. Just kills you field position wise and wears the D out. 3: TD's scored by opponent. 4: one first down and punt, longest "drive" was 7 plays, none over 33 yards gained. 2: End of half 1: Fumble 1: FG drive: 13 plays, 79 yards, 7:16 TOP 5 : TD drives: 11-81, 5:40. 4-50, 1:37. 13-78, 7:54. 3-20, 1:43. 11-85, 5:43.
Thank you. This sums up my thoughts, perfectly. Also, we played the fucking Dolphins. Those guys are DOGSHIT. If we went out there playing like we did last night against Green Bay or Pittsburgh they would have demolished us. It's inexcusable to have that many consecutive 3 and outs and if we played a good team we would have paid for it, just like we paid for it in New England.
