Taking all the Schott's By MARK CANNIZZARO October 15, 2011 Brian Schottenheimer hears the noise. He's become accustomed to being the lightning rod when the Jets are not playing well. The Jets, mired in a three-game losing streak entering Monday night's game against the Dolphins at MetLife Stadium, are not playing well -- particularly on offense, where they're ranked 25th overall and 30th in rushing. So, in a repeat of the Jets' poor offensive stretch last season, the voices of disgruntled fans has been growing louder in their criticism of Schottenheimer. "The people that say they don't hear it are lying; you're aware of it," Schottenheimer said yesterday of the criticism. "It comes with the territory. I do the best I can. This staff works our tails off. We have to be more consistent. When you're not winning games, you're going to take heat in the position I'm in." With some exceptions, most notably receiver Santonio Holmes, Jets players have rushed to Schottenheimer's defense. "It is not Schotty's fault, it's the players' fault," running back LaDainian Tomlinson said. "We've got to get the job done. [The criticism] is unfair, because Schotty is not the one who's out there throwing the ball, catching it, running it, blocking. He can't do any of that. All he can do is game plan for us and put us in the right positions and hopefully we execute." Asked if his feelings are shared by other players in the locker room, Tomlinson said: "I hope that's the feeling. It should be. If we want to be champions like we say we want to be, we've got to hold each other accountable as players and stop blaming it on coaches all the time. We've got to get the job done. Collectively, we've got to feel like it's up to us to make the plays and get the job done." Right guard Brandon Moore said "fans don't understand" what goes on behind the scenes when they call out Schotteheimer. "They don't get it, they don't know how hard this man works and the hours he puts in, what it takes to call plays in this league. He knows what he's doing," Moore said. "I appreciate players saying that, but ultimately I'm always going to take the responsibility," Schottenheimer said. "There's plenty of blame to go around, but ultimately sit in my chair you take the responsibility. That's the way I was brought up in my family." * Commenting for the first time about the report last week that claimed receivers Santonio Holmes, Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason all went to coach Rex Ryan at separate times to complain about him -- something all three receivers and Ryan said was false -- Schottenheimer said: "I was made aware of it and once Rex said it was untrue then I had no concerns about it." All the players that are supporting Schotty do not want to have to move their families in the middle of the season. Tell the truth , you get traded or cut. Fire Schotty, he has a piss poor track record.
Two AFCCG appearances in a row with a raw and inaccurate QB. You really nailed it! If we right this ship and make the playoffs this year, I have a feeling SCHOTTY's critics will still not be quited. Players play and coaches coach! I think that if our players executed their assigned tasks better, our offense would look better and be more successful. The end of the year is when OCs are changed; not in mid-season. That is a way to really screw up the locker room and disrupt team unity.
Different personnel, different quarterbacks, same offensive coordinator, same poor to mediocre offense, there's only one conclusion you can draw, Schotty is the problem.
This is all I ask for from him, that's it, no big complaints or elaboate "why I hate Schotty critisizim", no I just want some balls over 10 yards fed to what I believe are 2 really good WR's and an emerging 3rd.
i agree with you to an extent but you cant deny that our offense has been mediocre at best even before sanchez and these other new players, and i agree with the players not executing their assignments, i do see a lot of mess ups out there, but its so much harder to execute when the plays your running are so predictable the defense knows where the ball is going and are not fooled. now i do want to see shotty gone but not at this second. the offense will not be able to pick up a new offense in time. unless we are eliminated from the playoff race then i say we need to keep shotty for the rest of the season.
Its hard to stretch the field when the QB is scrambling for his life before the WRs get 5 yards down the field. Easier said than done. If Sanchez gets some time to throw, you'll see more deep balls.
Even if he's a decent manager, lots of decent managers get fired when the plan isn't working well because really their job is to make the plan work well. Think about it.
Its a simple question. Do the Jets win because of Schotty, or despite him? If they win despite him, which is what I think the cae is, then at some point he has to go.
This is how I feel about it too. I don't doubt that he works his ass off and that he wants the team to win every game, but the fact is that his game plans just don't seem to take advantage of the players/situations that he's presented with.
not that i feel one way or another. but i can remember some posters saying how the players know so well about how bad schotty is, remember back when santonio homo first started chirping. there were quite a few that were quick to say the guys in the lockerroom know better than the fans... homo says he sucks so he must. well now the shoe is on the other foot, so are you going to disregard tomlinson and moores words in favor of santonio holmes? that would sure be a shame and show some serious issues that certain posters have.
At least theirs SO MUCH attention on Schotty, hes been getting a free pass from the media for the last couple years. No one ever mentioned him, or blamed him. Its about damn time hes the target.
Only schotty would make people take Holmes word over Tomlinson and Moore. He really brings out the hate.
I haven't supported shit this year. Just an observation. Theres literally no other topic where people would dismiss those two guys in favor of Holmes.
LT also said that the running game was predictable to defenses. He said that the depth or formation of the RB tips their hand to the opposition. So even though he defends the coach he likes, he's also said that the scheme isn't the best. So what those "other posters" have said, they're still right.
of course you are. it really doesnt matter what goes on, some posters will always find a way for themselves to be right. cue up the you dont know shit about football post in 3, 2, 1.... as i have said before, i dont have a side in the schotty argument, i just love the way things get twisted up.
