Look whether or not you believe that Shaun Ellis is over at this point, and it's quite possible that it true, there is no way in hell the Jets beat the Patriots in the playoffs last year if he did not have the game of his life. He blew them up on the day. I'm not saying that if the Jets had Shaun Ellis this year things would be a lot better, just that without him the depth on the defensive line is shallow and really they look weak against the run.
Lack of off-season fucked up a lot of teams, IMO. Think of it this way- which teams are taking the NFL by surprise? Answer: the teams whose players finally didn't have to spend their summers in Detroit and Buffalo.
I have absolutely had it with you! ..........................Enjoy the remainder of your football season~
Ok here's my take for what it's worth, which i know isn't much to most on this board. I totally get the frustration of the OP. I have been a fan of Rex but to be honest I can't stomach listening to to the guy even when we are winning. I don't expect or want him to change who he is but I really think his ego has hurt us at times. I mean can any of you really say that you believe the hype that this guy has spewed for the past 3 seasons? I really think he looks at this team through rose colored glasses. THIS TEAM IS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR AS GOOD AS THE LAST 2 THAT WENT TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! You take away guys like Woody,Cotchery,Jenkins,Richardson,Thomas Jones and while some were old and needed to go and Cotch wanted out but my point is that these guys were leaders on this team and that leadership hasn't been replaced. To me the mark of a good/great coach is knowing the strength of the players he has and adapting to those strengths to get the most out of those players.I don't believe this is something Rex does and a lot of that I believe has to do with his ego. We all know Rex's defense is predicated on his corners shutting down the opposing teams WR's and his pass rush coming from his LB'ers. The problem is none of our LB'ers are named Suggs or Lewis and just aren't talented enough to make this scheme work. Harris is the best of the bunch but if we really want to be honest is not anywhere near a franchise player. He is solid and very good but not the beast that Suggs Lewis or Matthews and others are. Bart Scott is another very good LB'er but he has reached his ceiling and like his coach talks a better game then he actually plays. Pace, see above without the talk, and Thomas was a good run stuffer but that's about it. None of these guys are worth a damn in pass coverage and let's not even get into the safeties not named Leonhard. The Defensive line is also chock full of good to average players. NONE are steller. NONE are stars. The offense is totally lacking depth on the line and the play calling is PATHETICALLY PREDICTABLE.OUR OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR IS A MORON AND HAS TO BE REPLACED! Add to that the revolving door at WR along with a QB in his 3rd season trying to develope chemistry with a new set of wideouts in each of his 3 years and an average set of RB's. I think we will see what kind of coach Rex really is this season. This is really his first true test. It's easy to be a big mouth when you're winning and everyone loves you. Let's see what he does with this team under adversity. To me the jury is still out on Rex. Is he really as good as we want to or he would have us believe? Or is he just a guy with a big mouth who talks a better game then he is capable of coaching?
I am fed up as well and I am not going to take it. I am going to hold my breath till I turn blue. I suppose two of the most fun years are out the window be cause of three sloppy losses? That really doesn't make much sense. It's like getting mad at pizza because it burned the roof of your mouth.
That's because its usually wrong, or not well informed. That's why we're here to help. I'll start here. Rex's bravado and "talking" are two reasons why the Jets have played at such a high level. It focuses the team, and puts the pressure on them to cash the check their HC is writing. If you've noticed, Rex isn't making as many bold predictions. There are two reasons why - 1)he's been told to quiet down, which means he's not being himself, which players don't respect. Or 2) He knows his squad isn't as good, so why come and out and act tough when the team is not going to cash the proverbial check we writes. The leadership has been put in place, and I don't think they're doing a bad job. The bad job is in the execution of plays from both sides of the ball, as well as coaching. Everyone isn't doing their part. If you don't think Rex has gotten the most out of the players on the roster since he's been here, I don't know what to say to you. Pouha, DeVito, Pace, Thomas, the safeties. The defense has a lot of parts that in other schemes would not be doing as well. Adalius Thomas agrees with me. You're right, the Jets don't have HOFer or perennial pro bowlers at LB. Not many teams do. And yet the Jets had top 3 defenses the last two season. Rex's scheme sucks. I agree. Harris is good, but not great. He's regressed this year. But stop comparing everyone to the elite in the NFL. I can name 150 other players who aren't Suggs, Lewis, or Matthews. It's pointless to name the best and say, "he isn't them!" Yeah, no shit. The opinions on Bart Scott are very telling on this board in terms of who really knows their shit and who doesn't. Those of us who swear by him, understand how good he is at the TED LB position. Those who say he's invisible, aren't watching. Although last week he was invisible, because the scheme had him off the field for most of the game due to the spread offense. And yet the defense was top 3 for the past two season. Wilkerson has the potential to be a very good player in this league. He's been triple teamed at times this season. This I agree with. The WR changes are detrimental, and Schotty has clearly lost confidence from his players. I really think that Tom Moore as a consultant is more than just "help." I think its also a move that says "Get your shit together or you're gone." I personally don't think Schotty returns next season. I think that he's dealt with injuries that are tough to cover up, and an offensive scheme change that ruined two phases of the ball at once. His team has been under adversity every year, and they've come out on top. In 2009, there was just as much adversity, so I don't get where you're going with this. 09 is the perfect example. Have you forgotten so much so quickly? The Jury is still out? He's had top defenses and two AFC Title appearances. One could be a fluke, but back to back? That means he knows his shit. If this were Herm, then you might have a case. But your opinions are really off base.
ok, enough of this BS. Dude, Had Indy not HANDED you a playoff spot, you were OUT in 09. You went 9-7 and got extremely lucky. The entire organization as well as all of the NFL was shocked you even made it into the wild card. You played well because you didn't deserve to, nor expect to be there. You went 11-5 in 2010, and had far too many close games that COULD have let you finish with another 9-7 or worse record. The team found a way to win close nail biting games. This was your only good season. Stop bragging like these 2 playoff runs somehow state that your team is better than it actually is. Hindsight being 20/20, you would have made the playoffs last year and that is it under most cases, 09 was an anomaly. You know it, I know it, and the entire NFL fan base knows it. Changes were made, or not made in many cases that are causing you problems so far this year. No depth at OL and no pass rush is going to kill you. plain and simple. Who else do you blame? It starts at the effing top man...That is Rex and the sh*t rolls downhill from there.
OMG, Please do not ever mention that possibility. I hereby declare Manlaw. The demise of the NFL, or any discussion pertaining to the lack of existence of the NFL shall be prohibited from any male discussions ever. This includes but is not limited to verbal communication, discussion boards, blogs, etc... Violation of said Man Law is punishable and will incur a 24 hour man card removal based at the spot of the infraction, the title of Man B*tch given to the offender, and the loss of any/all masculine ways.
I hope the grind is not getting to Rex. We may be in for a year or two of mediocre Jets football. Just like the good old days!
