Realistically the Jets had to beat one of the three teams on this road trip to be a serious contender. Yes, there is lots of season left and the Jets have a pretty good record on the road in the playoffs the last couple of years however the way the AFC is breaking down it may well take 11 wins for the Jets to get a wildcard since they have already lost to Oakland and Baltimore where the first tiebreaker is head to head play.
Our team has been in a funk. Packers were 10-6 last year, 2 two game losing streaks, and two other losses. Their first back to back losses came to Washington and Miami. Washington had a total of 6 wins last year, and we all know about Miami. Losses to Detroit and NE back to back, and the final two losses to the Bears and Atlanta. If not for some help they would've missed the playoffs. They caught fire at the right time. They started the season 3-3. I know this has nothing to do with us, but it's still early in the year and at any moment we can look like the team that beat NE at home in the playoffs and rip 8-10 wins off in a row. Call me crazy but we can do it, the coaches have to gameplan and adjust better, the players execute better, and IMO Rex has to lose his ego on defense. Rex would rather us be a low scoring offense to burn clock to keep his D fresh. We should label our offense, it should be what Pettine described the Pats offense. "flavor of the week" Against NE we should've thrown it 40 times, because their pass D has been atrocious but no with 9:00 to go and two scores down we're burning clock and running the ball. Fuckin Stupid Our offense has the talent to be our team's "bell-cow" but Rex's defensive pride may have to take a backseat to what's best for our team. Obviously we're built to stop the pass, so we jump out to a lead and force teams to comeback on us by throwing. No more deferring shit, let the offense earn its keep.
What GB did last year was not the best way to win an SB, even if it worked for them. To their credit they really got it going at just the right time. But they also had a Qb who played better than it is conceivable that Sanchez will play at that level this year, if ever. They were tougher in the trenches, too. But your last paragraph - wow. Good work. I think we need to consider that this O is not suited with present personnel for a Ground and Pound attack, for reasons that have been severally mentioned here all week, and to some extent last week. Even with Mangold back, the OL is not doing great in the running game, and Greene is no Peterson. Stop deferring. Take some shots down the field early in the game. Get Kerley in there. Change up the formula that currently is not getting it done. Meanwhile the D needs to suck it up and focus on fundamentals. Like tackling. And no more BS from Ryan about how great these guys are. If someone whiffs on a tackle, sit his ass down. I don't care who it is.
You seem to have a personal dislike for Rex, which is your fucking problem. If he just shut up and ate his snacks there wouldn't be a lick of difference in the team's performance except that they might play even worse
This bothers me too. Mostly because around here that is the reason for keeping Schotty. "Sanchez needs consistency because he's young", then we revamp our WR corps every year.
I've always felt that I personally could not/would not act like Rex does because it's not my personality, but if it works for him, that is fine for me. And it did seem to work for him. Before. Now? Well, I don't think the problems are directly and solely attributable to his persona. But his persona is a little hard to take when there is a lack of success on the field. Why? It should be obvious. It can't be said without success that it is working. And if it ain't working, what's the point? What's the upside? Seems pretty obvious.
You hit the nail right on the head. Rex's defense has looked like CRAP lately and Kerley is a better option than Mason. I still think the jets long-term problem is Sanchez. This is his 3rd year, and he still has more picks than TDs. Also, not that it was earth-shaking, but I thought it was stupid taking Sanchez's buddy Scotty in round 7 of the last draft--If that didn't make Sanchez more complacent or think that his shit doesn't stink with the jets, nothing will. We have plucked some decent OL in the 7th round in the past (Duane White 1990, Ryan Young 2000)--Would have been better to take a flyer on the OL instead of McKnight.

Way to early to be discounting anything like that. The NFL is very unpredictable, anything can happen. We are far from missing the playoffs. There is no way you could possibly declare something like that already, at all.

When you have average talent you get average results. Right now the Jets have average talent at best. The strength of the team used to be the offensive line. That's gone. The front seven had 4 plus players in Kris Jenkins, Bart Scott, David Harris and Shaun Ellis. Now they have 2 and Scott and Harris aren't at the level they were at 2 years ago either. This isn't the same team it was last year and in 2009 and it's not going to win off of Ryan and Schotty coaching up average talent even assuming that Schotty could do that which he demonstrably can't.
Jenkins played 5-6 games in 2 year's under Ryan, and Sean Ellis was well past his prime during the same time span.
