He already did the same thing to a much more productive and talented player in Randy Moss. Dear God, imagine if we actually signed him. We wouldn't have even gotten the conditional pick and would have just had to cut his ass.
I don't like this. So if one of the WR's goes down the new #3 is...Patrick Turner? I think Kerley's capable of being a very solid slot WR, but the depth behind him in case of injury is very weak.
I don't think we're that much further removed from where we were with Mason on the team. The guy wasn't doing shit on the field and I can't really find much proof that he was committed to the team. The only thing we would have had behind Kerley if we didn't trade away Mason is a better reputation as far as I'm concerned.
Brian Costello So, if the #Jets get another 7th round pick, I wonder if Sanchez has any friends they can draft this year? ha ha
Well, Lankster's signing was reported at around 1pm and the first word of the Mason trade wasn't reported until 7pm or so, so I don't see the FO keeping the Mason trade a secret for the +6 hours between the Lankster signing, nor do I understand why they would want to. Then again, I haven't counted up the roster so I could be wrong on this one, although I could have sworn we had a roster spot open already.
The Jets' website hasn't removed Mason from the roster yet and Lankster is already on there with a total count of 53 so I have to guess that Lankster took Thomas' spot. Yes, I fully realize that by stating this information that I have confirmed that I have no life on a Tuesday night. EDIT: Jones was cut today according to some darksider dick-bite: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/7900/jets-cut-lb-jones-work-out-ex-dolphin So there's Lankster's spot meaning there is still one open for a replacement player after Mason's departure becomes official.
A couple of things after reading all 8 pages. 1. Why do people think we are going to sign a free agent? If there was a player in free agency that was remotely close to the caliber of Mason don't you think the Texans would have picked him up instead of trading for Mason (Yes I realize Mason might turn out to be traded for nothing) 2. This leads me to my belief that we are confident in Patrick Turner. Turner looked alot better in Preseason this year. Granted it is against backups, Turner will be taking over that 4th spot and look for someone from the practice squad to fill the 5th spot. 3. When they say Conditional 7th does that mean the best we can get is a 7th or its a 7th that can turn into a 6th lets say? I'm guessing the conditional 7th is just speculation anyway and no one actually knows. 4. Dan DePalma Did The pats really sign him to their practice squad? That kid looked like he had some potential in the slot and on kick returns.
When Rex said this the other day-- Not gonna lie, I immediately thought to myself, there's some badness happening on the Mason front, and.... Bam. Traded. Not truly shocked by this.
