I would be good with this Halftime: Jets trail by 3, Mason benched By Rich Cimini FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Quick takes at halftime, Jets down, 10-7, to the Patriots. • After four three-and-outs, the Jets may have saved their season -- and embattled coordinator Brian Schottenheimer -- with a 13-play, 78-yard TD drive. It was a run-reliant drive, with Shonn Greene rushing eight times for 34 yards, including a 3-yard scoring run. It was huge for the Jets' psyche, considering the poor start and the turmoil on offense. • Derrick Mason, the No. 3 WR, was benched, replaced by rookie Jeremy Kerley in three-receiver packages. Mason is in the dog house because of his critical post-game comments from last week, I'm told, and it wouldn't be a shock if they cut him in the coming days. Yes, they're that down on him, and they could try to make a statement by cutting him. • Sometimes you get lucky. The Patriots should've had a 17-7 lead at halftime, but TE Rob Gronkowski dropped a pass in the end zone on the final play and it was intercepted by CB Antonio Cromartie -- a huge momentum swing for the Jets as they headed to the locker room. Let's see if they can capitalize on it. It was the first red-zone interception at home for Tom Brady in his career. • The first four possessions were so bad that it looked as if the offense had quit on Schottenheimer. Remember, this isn't the '85 Bears defense. The Patriots are ranked 32nd in total defense, and yet they were pressuring Mark Sanchez and shutting down Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress. • Give a hand to the Jets' defense. They created some problems for Brady, who was fooled by several DB blitzes. Unofficially, CB Darrelle Revis has covered WR Wes Welker 11 times. On those plays, Welker was targeted only once -- a three-yard reception. Welcome to Revis Island, Mr. Welker.
cuttign him would be harsh... especially considering Kerley is clearly not ready to be a dynamic receiver for us. Mason hasn't been spectacular, but he has stellar hands, that quick slant pass he caught on 3rd down after getting blasted by the MLB was something I don't think any other player on our team could make that play.
Here's something many didn't even talk about from last week: After the ass kicking Mason was on the field cracking jokes and meeting up with RAVENS players. He was heard screaming about going to Ruth Chris' during the post game interview. How's that for a team player?
What will be great is if/when they cut him, Mason will probably have a few things to say about what a disgrace Shittenheimer is.
I think they may have already "lost" Mason. I just don't see him buying into BS's system at this point.
Mason is clutch on 3rd down. He got a few today. SHOTTY SUCKS!! He didnt call the game today I wonder who did!?!?!
Why on earth would we cut him? It's not his fault schittenheimer has him as the deep threat on the team
Good point, I honestly can't even remember any Can't wait till next week when on 3rd down we have all 4 of our receivers running comebacks SHORT of the first down marker  CANT WAIT!!!!!
Why do we do that shit year in and year out? We need 6 yds for a first down, lets run our Wr's 4yds and hope for YACs. Damn, this team is beginning to wear me down.
I saw that too. It's what made me go back and check the author going who got paid to write that shit? oh Cimini? nm its totally baseless speculation that is probably more of his "unnamed sources"
