It's the exact same in that the refs were reviewing a fumble for 5-10 minutes, and they had to pretend that they didn't see the penalty because you can't review roughing the passer. As I said before, the pussification of the game really bothers me. I don't think that Ngata's hit should be a penalty, but by the rulebook it was one. I've speculated this before, but I think that roughing the passer gets called so sporadically because the refs don't know what actually constitutes a penalty and what doesn't. They change the rules every offseason, and the refs are constantly playing catch-up; if you don't fully understand a rule, you can't judge it effectively.
I guess you just don't care for rules. There are alot of hits That are called fouls that I think should not be but the only way to have a just league they need to be called for both sides. It's like the roughing the kicker non-call on reed. I have no problem with the ref calling a holding penalty but was it fair for the Jets that they roughed the kicker on the same play but only called a hold on us?
lead w/the shoulder Its been called enough for hte past several years They should know it by now. What about the call against wilkerson
Nah, that was Marty Lyons. Gastineau stopped giving people the business the minute they were down. All he cared about were the sacks.
Still is (a penalty), and should have been called on that play. I actually winced when I saw Sanchez's head snap back... that's a dangerous hit.
You can't lower your head such that the crown of your helmet is a primary impact point on the ball carrier. He was coming from the blindside. All he had to do was lower his shoulder and make contact that way. He chose to put his head down and hit Sanchez in the spine with his helmet. Not only was that a very dangerous play but it was also illegal. I think he'll probably get fined but we'll see what happens. The league office has been very tough on the Steelers and Ravens over the last couple of seasons. They may let this one go because of the angle of the evidence. The key thing to remember about all of this stuff is that the point of the NFL's intervention by fines is to stop intentionally violent play that is also dangerous to player health and safety. It has to be both things before the NFL steps in and drops a fine. A hard legal hit will never get fined. A softer illegal one will often draw a fine. This is why James Harrison has been so outspoken about the fines so far. He uses techniques that are intentionally violent and dangerous all the time. He gets fined sometimes even when he didn't blow the ball carrier up.
Looking at those photos, he didn't. It's his facemask making contact, and the top photo also looks like his left shoulder. I'd be surprised if that's judged worthy of a fine.
The bottom photo shows he lead with the crown of his helmet. After the impact, u can see that his head straightened up due to the contact making it seem like he lead with the face mask. Top photo is taken after the bottom one. His left shoulder wasnt even close. See my thread on the RTP penalty on the int.
what does it take for sanchez to get any calls? he got hit 10 times(not including sacks) on sunday, and every game he is getting his ass kicked. i know this sounds pussy, but seriously? does he have to go on IR before he gets 1 flag?
Sanchez and Vick get the least amount of respect when it comes to calls. Sure, it's nitpicking on the gata hit, but under the rules, he did lead with the crown of his helmet. They've been flag happy on that rule this year. Why is the same courtesy not extended to us? Same with the Miles Austin catch. We can't even get a review? I'm starting to think refs are penalizing teams with a lot of hype surrounding them. (lol not really,I'm just ranting). Seriously though, Sanchez gets creamed and hit late all the time.
It was a spear. Sanchez got up acting like there was a knife in his back. I see a man leading with his head. Face mask or not that's leading with your head. There were a lot of non calls. Our punter got knocked down like three times. They should of gotten one of those calls. They don't call much on Revis when he uses his hands as feelers but Cro does the same thing and he gets flagged. Regardless, the Jets played poorly enough that I don't think those calls would have saved them.
The calls wouldn't have saved them, but if teams know they can get away with leading their helmets on Sanchez they are going to continue to do it.
God have you EVER played the game Ngata hit him with a perfect form tackle. Now given the pussification of the NFL, there is a question whether he hit him with the top of his helmet or with the facemask (as he should). They never gave an angle that I saw that could determine that. From the bad angle they showed it "seemed" like he didn't hit him with the top of the helmet If THAT's an illegal hit, then they should just tell the DLmen to ask permission first if they can hit the QB. Think about it. If you don't make the perfect tackle and turn your head and try to make a shoulder tackle, and the guy spins off, and makes a play, do you ask for a do over? I'm ALL for taking the spear out of the game. But the spear is using the top of the helmet as a battering ram. Hitting with the facemast or front of the helmet just makes too much sense to try and outlaw it. In fact when you hit with the facemask, you are putting your body in the SAFEST position to make a hit. When you have your head down, you not only can hurt yourself, hurt your opponent, you are more likely to miss the tackle altogether.
He led with the crown of his helmet squarely into Sanchez' back. He'll definitely be getting a letter from the league for a mandatory donation. I know the ref's have been brutal this year, but to try to be a little fair to him, the ref, who was face to face with Sanchez could not see through him to determine that it was a helmet to the back.
