Mike Florio says Ravens should've been flagged for an illegal hit on Jets QB Mark Sanchez.

There was more then 1 illegal hit out there that night. I would have been fined a bunch of money if I was the coach.

Yeah, it was on the Ngata hit that forced Sanchez's second fumble that was returned for a TD.

I saw the hit a few times. What about the hit makes it "illegal?"

It looked like he led with his helmet to me, but I could be wrong. You'd reall need a side angle to tell that.

he deff led with his helmet, but if youre a cbs analyst, he led with his triceps, which are on the back of your arms. so unless ngata has triceps on top of his helmet, he didnt lead with them.

Here is the rule from NFL.com

A tackler using his helmet to butt, spear, or ram an opponent

I'm glad someone in the media actually acknowledged it. I doubt there will be a fine.

Am I nuts or years ago - back in the 80s - wasn't spearing a penalty that refs used to call, as in "spearing, number 99 of the defense . . "?

As you can see it all depends on your name in the NFL. If you not Brady than you will not get a call.

True, but someone needs to speak up a little on that side line when the calls are obviouse not the right one's.
Sanchez is going to get hurt bad, and who do we have for a back up?

You guys are grasping here..... the hit was clean..... Exactly how are you supposed to tackel someone from behind? They have a strike zone to follow. I mean, do you want Ngata to nail him with his crotch? What a pathetic excuse. The front of his facemask hit Sanchez in the back... He didn't use the crown of his helmet....

The hit was illegal. I agree with you that it's retarded that the NFL has branded that kind of hit illegal, but the rulebook is clear that you can't lead with your helmet. The NFL would prefer that Ngata grab him with his hands or lead with his shoulder, which I think is unreasonable, but it is what it is.

I actually agree with Florio on this one, which is rare. It's silly to review the fumble for 10 minutes while pretending that you don't see the roughing the passer happening. It's the exact same situation as the Rodgers facemask/fumble from a few years ago.
