Also does anyone know a good place to get beer near the stadium, Im sure Ill find one if I just look when I get there but i dont wanna have to keep goin back for 40's, what places sell12packs and such near the stadium?
Yea im way down in central Jersey so im leaving pretty soon , gonna crawl some parking lots see where the crazies are. Stans might be a good option to though.
and as far as Metallica, or any of the bands on the bill, you have to know that they are all pushing 50 years old at this point.
Really? I've never seen them be anything other than brilliant, it's disappointing if they weren't good for this gig. Speaking of Metallica, did you hear they were doing this? It could be fantastic but I suspect it's going to be awful.
I know ive defended Metallica on here before when people bring up that theyve sold out blah blah blah, you know the story. Ive said "yea thats true, but when ive seen them live they still kick ass and arent like that..." Well this time it was different, I actually contemplating leaving because I felt i was at the wrong concert. Music wise and setlist wise, they were fine actually a pretty good setlist and they sounded right on. However whether it was more towards the majority of fans that were there or towards them for knowing thats who would be there and hamming it up for them...it just made me want to puke. The guns and explosions at the beginning of "One" is one thing...its part of the song so it was ok. Even when they played fuel which i hate but you know they are gonna play anyway, and they had the flames going...ok still a little over the top but whatever...fuel fire i get it. Blackened they pull out this...this fucking...???...laser show? Red dots, wtf? then a whole bunch of green shit...is this the NBA or fucking metal? and the end, just closed the book on the whole thing, a bunch of fucking bouncy balls for everyone to play with during seek and DESTROY. Cliff is turning in his grave, Dave was probably in the back laughing his as off or some shit. A metallica concert is supposed to be like a kick in the ass, this was more like a 5 year olds birthday party. And the majority of people there, every time kirk did a solo they felt they needed to acopello (spelling?) the solo, eveyr damn note even when a human vocal cord isnt fast enough to produce a sound that even resembles the song. OK you know how the song goes WE GET IT! SHUT THE FUCK UP!! Not just people near me either, the whole stadium, its like everyone except me was ok with this horseshit. its one thing when its Iron maiden and fear of the dark or something, thats already like an opera, this is THRASH...SPEED. This fat bubbly monster of a chick next to me, i cant even describe how she liked metallica, if you didnt know she was there for metallica the way she talked about them was the same as for a 15 year old and n'sync...Just a whole stadium of fucking tool bags. Again im saying a majority, there had to be some people who like metal the way it was intended to be enjoyed. oh yea and lars had on this SWEET v neck shirt, i thought he was Phil Collins. Not that that really pissed me off, but it was kinda funny. like i said, musically it was good i guess, setlist was good, but....well FUCK /rant
Come to think of it I knew as soon as I got off the train what to expect, first thing I see is some 15 year old kid wearing a brand new crisp Kill 'Em All TOUR t shirt. You werent even alive kid! I wasnt either but that beside the point, you werent fing there! Whats the point of spending mega bucks on a tour shir the day of when you can just buy one 30 years later! am i alone in thinking a Tour shirt means you were there? Fucking tools.
It was all spelled out as soon as they did the "big 4" thing. I miss the tape trading days where thrash seemed to have no chance of being mainstream. Now it's a cutesy hot topic rebel nostalgia thing that is beyond sell out. Far cry from when i 1st saw metallica in the mid 80s. Metallica should have stuck to their guns and never made the video for One.
I had a great time at the show and I think they all sounded great. However I cant disagree with Chrebet all Ill say is I tried to ignore what did bother him and i thought the lasers were kind of cool at first however too many people loved em.
You hit the nail on the head with the tour shirts. Like a badge of honor saying I was there type thing. My problem was I would wear those shirts right out wearing them all the time and eventually ruining them.
I would never see them again either. But for different reasons. They really should be ashamed of themselves. Not to nitpick, but seriously, during fade to black, how do you fuck up the change up in the acoustic part, not once, not twice but every fucking time? This goes the same for the change up after the beginning notes of One, as well as the solos. It just blows my mind. You wrote the song, you play the song every fucking day, the same way, but you fuck it up repeatedly. It's not like they change up the song or something, they play it the same way they recorded it. Larz is a complete disgrace to drumming too. They were better off bringing in a drum machine. He should be embarrassed, especially after letting Dave Lambardo get on the drums. He should of just walked back stage, directly to his limo and went home after Lambardo tore it up. I mean, even Hetfield had to say something about the drumming. But for the stage setup and pyrotechnics and laser lights, it's arena rock, and wasn't disappointed in that. I would of preferred they cut that to save some money on the ridiculous ticket price. I've seen them a bunch of times, and I defended them too, but that was pretty bad. The two new songs suck, and what the f' was with that bass solo? Just tuning down the string? Anyhow, I agree, Slayer always delivers. Would of been great to hear something from Hell waits, but it was great none the less. Megadeth seemed pretty good, a little off on some things, but not like I would never see them again. And you know Scotty Ian probably had the best day of his life playing at yankee stadium. I'm sure it was a dream come true for him. As for the crowd, it was what I expected. The Pits were pretty tame. I didn't even see one fight. I thought it was real strange going in, we didn't get patted down or even go through a metal detector. Also thought the grounds crew were great, clearing the floors of garbage between sets. Nothing like stepping in puke or some kind of sludge through out the whole show.
