I definitely agree about Garrett. Are you saying he is a better coach than Rex/Pettine? I don't think you are, but if Rex is as good as many say he is, he ought to be able to figure out a way to stop them without having to depend upon Romo to eff things up. He also ought to have fixed the thing where they don't show up for the first half, too. IMO, that's just not the sign of a prepared, disciplined and well-coached team. It may seem like small things, but it's these details that hurt the Jets every year.
I have to agree with you on this, 8 tackles and a sack. He was all over the field. It was great to see.
There is a lot to work on. Pass coverage(not counting CBs) and OLine need to get into sync much earlier.
He's not a better coach, but as a football mind he is tough to match up against for anyone. The good news is that there were no penalties, but I can see that lateral movement is still an issue with this team. The matchups against our defense worked in the Cowboys favor with Felix and the WRs. Bryant is too physical for Cro, and I think Austin is too. Cro is infuriating to watch. I agree with the 1st half issue. Its got to change. If it does, this team will win the SB. I'll guarantee that.
The bit in bold I agree with, but I'll give them a partial pass as it's the first game of the season and some may still be finding their feet a little. The first statement I don't agree with though. Romo fucked up partly because it's what Romo does, but partly because the Jets continued to keep pressure up and take away his targets. You can't just put all the screw ups down to the QB getting it wrong without crediting the defence for forcing him into making bad choices.
Hunter picked it up later on, but holy shit he was bad today. But, Ware is that fucking good. My issue was no TE or RB chipping him early in the game. I was livid at shotty for not giving Hunter help early on. That's just stupid.
Of course. You ignore the details, the bad habits, the sloppy play. It's easy to just be happy then. I'm about seeing this team get their shit together and winning the Lombardi Trophy. For a supposedly "elite" team, this team has too damned many games like this. The team won't win many games when the offense takes the entire first half of the game to move the ball and score. Dallas' D isn't that good. Their secondary is especially suspect, especially with Newman out. The Jets' OL is supposed to be one of the top 5 in the NFL. They sure didn't play like it tonight. They couldn't run the ball and couldn't protect Sanchez. Sanchez took some big hits tonight. He could have easily have gotten injured on any of those hits.
That wasn't my intent. The D did step their play up late in the game, causing some of those errors, and played well on some other series, yet on others the 'Boys moved the ball almost at will, and the Jets looked clueless to stop them. IMO it looked like the Cowboys wanted to win more than the Jets did. That's what really ticked me off. The Jets didn't seem to be playing with a lot of fire or passion.
That felt like one of the old shoot outs of old..the style of play you don't get in today's NFL. Maybe it takes two Ryan's to bring the 70s-80's era style back, but that's what I saw tonight. If I had an ekg I would guess I had 3 heart attacks each quarter.
I don't believein stats telling the whole story either. However, to think that the Jets can't be a top 10 offense with the way they played tonight is silly. The Cowgirls D had good pressure on Mark and DWare is one of the best rushers in the league. Not every team has a DWare so I think the OLine can come out and fix the issues over the next 3 weeks against softer teams. I'm a little disappointed in the D but I am also aware that the CGs O is pretty damn good - new OL or not.
this game must have been absolutely fantastic to watch as an outside fan. it was excruciating as a jets fan
Ware and Bryant were better than I would have thought going in, and I was worried our O-line was going to get Sanchez killed (even when they started pass blocking better, the run blocking was still horrible, best way I can describe it) But I never thought we were going to lose. Collinsworth said about Sanchez in the 4th, "If you're going to make a name for yourself, here's your chance" and I'm thinking about all the miracle comebacks from last season and wondering WTF is he talking about? Never a doubt, and nothing left to prove for me. But he did it again, just like I knew he would, somehow.
Every hit a QB takes, he has the potential to get injured. Tom Brady might get injured on a hit, and he did. Hits are a part of the game. But early on the OL was bad. The idea to leave them on an island against Ware was stupid. He's the best pass rusher the Jets will face this season. They rarely chipped him. That's horrible philosophy
Anyone upset tonight needs to remember that Rob always gets into Rex's head and vice versa. If you have a brother you get it. No matter what teams they've been for, they always play each other close. Rex had to do things he didn't think Rob would expect, and vice versa. This was all about our HC vs their DC IMO. Defense needs to sharpen up but I am not complaining yet it is early in the season and Dallas' projected to have an explosive O so this was expected to not be one of our typical 13-10 Ryan Specials. O Line was just shaky at the beginning. We could have lost Sanchez but we didn't. A win is a win, on to next week. That was one of the most exciting games of this millenium and everyone should be happy we came out on top. 1-0!!
I'm not going to judge Hunter against Ware. That's a losing proposition for most every lineman. There's now a gamefilm to improve upon. Also a win instead of a loss. Dallas' o-line played a hell of a game for a bunch of rookies. Those receivers are going to be hell for the league to defend. Rob Ryan squeezed every bit of talent out of those beaten up, second-rate corners. Tony Romo is the only one on that team that shouldn't be proud.
