worry less about schotty? maybe he will be able to actually run his offense now. either way good to know Mark can put on his big boy pants now.
You're right.... for some reason I had a major brainfart and totally overlooked that...man. I'm getting old.
Peyton manning had how many MVPs and people were still doubting him? Until he finally won in 06, people constantly were saying he was a choker despite being one of the most accomplished QBs ever. How about McNabb in philly? Talk about underappreciated. The guy was a winner too, was the worst part. they just couldn't get over the hump and had no receiving help for 90% of his time there. Philip Rivers probably gets even more flack than Romo does at this point. Romo has become virtually forgotten and he's no longer the main focus because of jerry jones' horrible decision making and the other issues surrounding the team. you have tunnel vision my friend. Romo isn't even close to the most scrutinized QB. Sanchez is even more scrutinized than he is just because of the market he plays in and the expectations of coming from USC as the 3rd pick. Romo was an undrafted nobody and had at least 2-3 years of free passes due to the fact that he was such a pleasant surprise.
I disagree with some of the stuff in your post. You fail to take into account Romo missed a significant chunk of last year. The scrutiny he was normally associated with, was significantly lessened when he was away. Dallas isn't the media market that New York is, however the Cowboys are a national team, sort of speak. The spotlight on Romo is as big as anyone when he is actually playing. Also what does being an undrafted player have anything to do with the present day? He has the same exact nonsense that Sanchez deals with, probably more. Remember when he was dating that blond retard? Yeah that was pretty ridiculous, the media and the gossip pages were reporting on how solid his shits were. I think that dallas_turtle was certainly using hyperbole a little too much. However, Romo like a lot of other top line QB's does have a microscope firmly embedded in his ass.
The team's season was already in the toilet when the giants knocked him out for the year. Most of it wasn't his fault, and the blame was directed more at Wade phillips and on the defense. Romo wasn't the problem and I don't think anyone really insinuated that last year. Like I said, Dallas has been dysfunctional more often than not because of Jerry's horrible moves and also bad coaching. I don't think Romo's been the target of that since probably TO was still playing. The whole thing with jessica simpson was in 07-08, so that's not exactly the present either. Even if his injury had put him out of the spotlight, it STILL means he's not being scrutinized because he has an excuse. Regardless of how it occurs, it still does. You can make a case for that year or two time period when TO was on the team, but Romo hasn't even been the top most 5 talked about QB the last couple of years. i also forgot to bring up another guy. Aaron rodgers? Remember the whole brett favre thing ? Having to fill his shoes? And then actually doing it? Tell me that's scrutinized.
I have a feeling Dez is going to come out like an emotional bitch looking to prove a point and is hoping to display his A game against Revis.
Jets Fan n Fish Town, Peyton was the most scrutinized player in the NFL, not now... McNabb was also a very scrutinized player for awhile, not now... People now accept that he'll never win the big game, but now he gets a pass from most... Rivers doesn't get near as much flack as Romo does these days, and rightfully so... He's got great stats like Romo, but Rivers has consistently taken his team farther than Romo has Dallas... All these players you mentioned, used to hold the mantle of scrutiny that Romo now holds... Sanchez wouldn't be scrutinized as much if he didn't have a QB Rating of 70 and more INT's than TD's (29/33) in his career, but in fairness to him he's very young... Sanchez deserves whatever scrutiny he gets, because he plays on a very talented team, where he is obviously one of the weaker links in the chain... Again, not trying to dis Sanchez too much, he's only 24 and could still become a great QB before his time is up...
Maybe in Dallas, but not nationally. You don't hear much about the cowboys (specifically romo) on any national format (NFL radio, NFL network, every ESPN but espn-dallas, CBSsports, yahoo etc). i'll say it again. the fact that they're no longer a complete team(and weren't last year) has taken the microscope off romo considerably. Their horrible season last year has completely tempered expectations. Now, 3-4 years ago, when they had one of the most talented teams in the NFL and hardly any weaknesses...that's when it was all about Romo. With the way the secondary and the offensive line are now, he's really under the radar. most people know the team is not going anywhere until those things get fixed. Also, philip rivers hasn't really had THAT Much success. the chargers are notorious chokers in the playoffs every single year. the only reason they beat indy that last time was because of darren sproles
At the same age and number years of experience in the NFL, Romo had a QB rating of zero. He sat on the bench for three years learning to play in the NFL. Sanchez skipped his senior year in College and was the starter on day 1 for the Jets. In his second year, he's tied the all time NFL record for most playoff road wins. Romo did bring the boys their only playoff win in 15 years, kudos to him for that. Fuck the fantasy numbers. I don't give a shit if he throws 20% completions if we win the game. He won a lot of games with big plays on critical drives last year. Those passes look like another completion in the stat book. In the stat book that matters, he scored wins.
Jay Cutler and Joe Flacco are arguably the most scrutinized and heavily criticized QBs as of now. Yeah the Cowboys are flying under the radar a bit because of the Eagles, but Romo has received too much flak for his laughable pass protection over the years. anyway on topic, the Cowboys are ailing, and their defense is learning on the fly, we have homefield and we simply have no excuses if we do not win this game. With that being said, they still have a talented roster and their offense under Garrett averaged around 30 points a game last season with their backup QBs.
Just, when Chargers choke, it's the head coach. (First, it's Marty, then now it's Norv. Either way, they won't get far with the choker of a head coach directing them.) For that reason, Rivers won't get that much scrutiny.
