truth. i think we sign him. he has shown enough in my opinion, to at least try and make a hybrid SS type player like others here have suggested. his speed is more than enough for that role, and he at least seems to project the type of attitude that he wants to succeed here.
thats not that big of a deal. rex will line up guys anywhere. maybe on paper he stays at lb, but he will (if he makes the team of course) get used in weird spots in specialty pass rush packages.
This talk of moving him to safety is silly. He's a pass rush specialist, that's why the Bills drafted him and that's why we picked him up. He's horrible against the run and has virtually no coverage skills. He's a situational player at best, let's not be stupid.
The oline comment was based on the premise that he played like he wanted to be a Jet, no one on that oline played like they wanted to be on the team, and the Gholston comment was based on the thought that he had him on our roster doing nothing but collecting money we can't make room for a project pass rusher who at the minimum has shown something in this preseason? Because there is no chance in hell he would last on our practice squad
What, you can't keep placing someone on the PS year after year? It's a good thing that they're safe once we put them on the PS, where no other team can claim them!
from what it sounds like and seems if it boils down to Westerman or Maybin, I would take Maybin up to this point...
Really? Westerman is very good Teams player. Maybin is at best a situational pass rusher and will be exposed against the top lineman in the NFL and offers zero on teams.
Westerman and Maybin are 2 completely different players, I would see Westerman as our primary backup for both Pace and Thomas who also gives us something on special teams, Maybin would play the role that Jason Taylor was supposed to play last year before injury forced him to play more, just a 3rd and medium to long specialist when we know that they have to pass the ball.
And we all know how one's natural body size exceeds his natural talent works out... Aaron and Gholston aren't remotely the same players. In fact, they are opposite and for that reason alone I'd like to see Aaron on the team on 9/11.
If Rex believes in him and thinks he can work with him and turn him into a legitimate pass-rusher, then Tanny will find a spot for him on the 53 man roster. You don't just throw away guys you think can rush the passer. If the Jets dump him, it tells you all you need to know. Rex Ryan isn't into just giving up on guys who can sack the QB. If he goes its because Rex doesn't think he can do it. It's not like we have a roster full of studs at the bottom and Maybin is just the odd man out. He would be losing out to guys like Bellore, McIntyre, Lankster... guys who I admittedly like, but it's not like they are superstars.
I see Maybin as kind of filling in the void left by Ihedigbo. Basically a guy who can contribute on ST and will be put in on D to be the designated blitzer on the play. I think that would work out pretty well.
fair enough ... but if the backup o-linemen continue to underwhelm, their potential spot would be replaced by a fa o-lineman that will play like a jet, not maybin i feel you about gholston but cutting him would have put us in cap hell for years. plus, we already have quite a few projects on the roster ... the o-line (ducasse), d-line (ellis), rb (powell), te (cumberland) and potentially ilb with bellore, if he makes the team this team is deeper than it was when gholston was stealing a spot, i dont know that we have the spots available for that many projects
