I'm in north Jersey. I can see the skyline and the lights from the stadium on a clear night. Had a little over a foot of water in the basement this morning. Water was pouring in the basement wall between the concrete blocks. Got rid of most of it with a bucket, and the little coffee can floor pump. I'll be shop vac'ing after I grab some food. Almost done. I hope the washer and dryer are okay. This storm really didn't live up to the hype.
It's amazing that some of you seem disappointed that the storm fortunately let up before hitting you.
NO, but I got a full day of mirth watching the news trying to spin it. I was heckling Faux News mercilessly. They kept cutting to a F*ng PALM tree in NC, to accentuate the wind till I tweeted it a half dozen times. (Not saying that's why they stopped, but it was hilarious)
My attic bathroom has a sky window, so I opened it after taking a shower and let the gusts dry me off.
No power and a few big limbs that I'm going to have to pay someone to take down, but by and large, Irene was a big fag. Although, the radio man says, "some people may be without power for up to a week." That better fucking not be me.
I remember during Wilma I had no power for 2 weeks... Was fucking rough... Sewer systems were also blocked at my community...We were shitting into bags... Fun times...
That's what I hate about living in the sticks, I'm a low priority. A tree fell on the line a block from my house this spring, it took Duke Power 3 fucking days to send somebody out. And I'm driving by this tree every day, thinking goddamn, its right there, assholes! It wouldn't take an hour, a chainsaw, and a cherry picker!
As you rank Hurricanes...have to agree...we have had more wind on the backside of the storm than the actual storm. With that said, always thought the floods would be a bigger deal than the wind. One day these weather guys are going to get the fact that models cant truly forecast a hurricane once it comes north. They models treat it as a noreaster. I did believe we would get more winds up north...just really tough to keep those storms together. One day...and I will probably be dead thankfully, there will be a storm that breaks with tradition when all the stars align a certain way...and it will happen. Another storm that formed off the coast of Africa and is taking the same path as the bitch, Irene. Lets see if that storm can do what this storm could not...kill as a many innocent people as possible..so we can restore faith in our weathermen..and elected officials.
I never lost power. Small branches and very little water in basement. However, we got lucky. The other side of my town is demolished. 4 feet of water covers the streets. My golf course is gone too. Guess I'll have to play somewhere else for a while.
I'm upstate but there is a shitload of flooding back down near my house. Other than that my house lost power for awhile but already has it back.
i am not too far from you and we barely have anything.some flooded yards but thats it.i don't think my satelite even went out
