Just took the dog out. One half of the street has water so deep that it comes up to your knees. The other side is clear. So crazy. Winds aren't bad here. Power is still on.
Saw that the East River has pushed its banks and is flowing into Brooklyn and barely into Manhattan, the Hudson has pushed its banks and has penetrated a block into Manhattan, no news of the Jersey side. CNN's doing a good job covering this shit. Long Beach looks like it's in trouble. Hang in there guys, the worst of it is almost over.
Dune Road under 3 feet of water over on the east side of the island. Fox interviewed a guy who just bought a house there last week and wont have insurance kick in until tomorrow. 3 feet of water, poor guy. First house, no older than Sanchez. Down south if a Hurricane is in the gulf houses can't close until it's passed. I imagine the north east will seek to pass safeguards now too.
Even though the storm winds aren't as bad as expected, its starting to look like a pretty good decision to have gotten some of those people out of NY, especially if the flooding gets worse in the city. Rather be cautious. Here in VA, its the flooding that's the main problem.
I have the same "pool". I guess I will be spending alot of time with my new best friend the wet-dry vacuum today.
I was in an area where there was a tornado warning. Luckily, one never came. Other than branches being down in the yard, there was no damage to my parents' house. I bet there is some flooding where I live. I'll find out later. The weird neighbor next door has been blowing leaves for the past half hour. It is not raining, but it is still windy and the ground is soaked.
Checking in from Brooklyn, NY. No real damage here at all other than cases of minor flooding in some of my friends houses. I had the tiniest of leaks coming into my room from my roofs gutter, but that stopped hours ago. -Way over-hyped to get our minds off of the economy for a week. -Bloomberg did such a bad job handling the snowstorm, that he had to oversell this hurricane to keep face.
It's done in Hoboken. Lots of water, but my power stayed on and all is good. Some streets you can literally swim in
I was right in the middle of posting here and saying that bitch Irene is a big puss of a storm when she blew just hard enough to blink the power on and off. Bitch killed my desktop... I think my power supply went out or something and had to fire up the laptop. Not sure its fully here yet, but we mostly got buckets of rain and a bit of wind. Not enough to completely knock out power, which for us isn't impressive at all. FU Irene!
I just saw Janette Napolitano on CNN ask all those with leaf blowers to please go outside and start clearing the lawn to aid in the cleanup. True story.
