The problem is that there are too many players on the jets who deserve to be captain. Maybe Rex decided to give it to the players who he wants to step up and be more of a leader, especially pouha for the d line. The team already knows mangold is the leader of the offensive line so he doesn't need the title of captain for the players to follow him as a leader.

Pouha is a boss. we need to re-sign him next year

He has stepped in, and played great in place of Jenks the last 2 years

Is it common for the coach to name the captains as opposed to the players voting on it? Does anyone know of other teams where the coach names the team captains? Thanks.

    like the picks.

feels like the captains are players who need to grow into the leadership position a bit rather than the obvious leaders. players who the c would mean more to and give them more of a sense of responsibility. you know mangold is in charge of the oline. lt is a respected guy. bart/leonhard are vocal on d.

but for the offense to take it to the next level, you need sanchez/holmes to step up and take charge.

on d, pouha seems like a great choice. i didn't know much about him as a person until i watched the life of a lockout videos on youtube. very good stuff.

i always saw revis as more of a respected, lead by example type guy. the other players see the way he plays, and he's obviously going to be respected just because he's probably the best player on the team. but i'm glad to hear that he's taken kyle wilson under his wing and taking a more active leadership role.

I think he said he is still going to rotate guys each week for the coin toss, but these are the real captains the whole season. They will have the "C's" on their jerseys.

Not that having a "C" on your jersey really matters, but I'm surprised that Jim Leonhard didn't get one.

Pouha is the one people are concerned about?

I can't for the life of me figure out why Santonio Holmes is a captain. Play a fucking season for this team first. Nick Mangold should be a captain-for-life.

Are you going to argue with Rex?

It's a shrewd move to keep Santonio Holmes on the straight and narrow, in my opinion, very similar to Joe Namath's captainship. Captainhood? Whatever.

I personally would have chosen Scott to be our other defensive captain but whatever....

So who's going to take Revis' place when he holds out again?

Revis is a professional's professional, a rather large part of Ryan's defensive focus, and also the best at his position in this fair football league.

Aside from a jilted Jets fan's annoyance toward his holdout situation, I am at a loss as to why anyone would question him being chosen as a defensive captain.

It should have been the "Core 4" With the emphasis on the "C". Get it?

Mangold, D'Brick, Revis, Harris and Sanchez for good measure.

Scott has made his career on top of a conspicuously large chip residing on both shoulders derived from the role of under appreciated workman. While understand your point, it makes more sense at this juncture not to ruin efficacious psychic mojo as this.

It would be a perfect world if leadership was simply measured with NFL performance on the field, but coaches like Herman Edwards, Eric Mangini and a much younger Pete Carroll learned the hard way in this respect, with this very team, that this world is far from perfect.

Know your locker room, and not just their names.

I can't complain about the choices. I feel we have to defer to the coach in situations like this. He know his players, and their leadership qualities, far better than we ever could.
