Ellis will be on the Pats for the season (Barring injury). Bank on it. He got the roster bonus the second they put him on the roster, Active/PUP is on considered on the roster. The $1.5 mil base salary is the only thing they'd get to keep if he is dropped. All this stuff about him being picked up just for info or some other bullshit is just that, bullshit. They are already into him for $2.5 mil. The best bet for wishful thinker fans is that he really is done.
Very true. But he also might've been some valuable insurance should the young guy have learning pains like Wilson did last year. The Jets were able to cover the nickel while he got better, but the Jets D line looks quite a bit thinner...
Yes, he would have been valuable in that role but the dline is much deeper now then it has been in a few years. Last year three guys did it all and barring injury this year they have 6. There will be a lot more rotations from the Jets then people are used to seeing.
Seems like it came down to money. Rex said in his book he'd like to keep everyone but you can't, they got a lot of young guys on the D-line now and are going to a rotation, plus had to spend a lot of money on other parts of the team. It's also possible that New England is over-valuing Ellis a bit based on the terrific playoff game he had vs them. Not to say he can't play but they gave him a lot more money than the Jets offered, so that's the way it went. Not the first Jet to go there and won't be the last, as much as it sucks.
The guy is 34 years old coming off of hip surgery, do you really think he's going to just beast this year after coming off of a pretty mediocre year on a team with a better defense with a defensive mastermind as the head coach. If anything I think it is you that is the wishful thinker, if you think he's going to New England and have a great year. I have no problem with having rookie linemen in, sometimes you have to put their feet to the fire and see what they offer you. If Wilkerson and Kendrick Ellis are good enough to start or be rotational players, that's great. No need to deter their progress all because a 34 year old player caught feelings that we didn't give him a multi year contract.
maybe thinner, but better. way better. we can prob even win pennington and this D. . :stoned: :get some better smiles...:
This. Better to not face him two times this season so what do they do? Remove the obstacle from the rocky road and "Join us please."
What part of my logic is misguided? That it's a bad idea to count on a rookie D lineman to start for you? Or that you can't seriously evaluate a player after one(1) padded practice? If you listened to Rex Ryan last year he would have told you that Kyle Wilson was ready to step in and be a quality football player from day 1. How did that work out? I don't know if you guys have ever noticed, but Rex ALWAYS says nice things about his players to the media. Just because Rex is talking someone up doesn't mean he is going to be a good player. Doesn't it make more sense to look at history? How many D Lineman come out of the draft and are ready to contribute from day 1? That list is pretty small, and it would put Wilkerson in some elite company. Maybe it's a good idea for you guys to lower your expectations just a smidge, then maybe you won't be declarig him a bust before September ends.
Where does it say I think he's gonna be a beast? I've said all along that it's wait and see for the Pats. The fact is, they were not strong on the D Line last year and the guys they've brought in look to be an upgrade.
Better dot those I's and cross them T's everyone. A new spelling dude is in town! BTW, there's a space between as and well!
nah, not even close... as I said in another thread, english is not even my first language and basically I only use it in here. Actually there's a sig somewhere mocking a quote of me displaying my lack of spelling/grammar/english skills. I just thought it would be funny.
This needs to be repeated on this board again and again. Rex overpraises guys in public. I've got no problem with it--it helps him build a lot of loyalty, it builds up player confidence--but don't mistake Rex Ryan saying something about how great a guy is for the fact that the guy is good, or even that Rex thinks the guy is good. Hell, Rex just spent two years building up Gholston and we do find out from the book? That Rex thought Gholston sucked from day one.
They were not strong anywhere on defense and that is why they were 25th in the league. Of course Ellis is an upgrade for you just as he is seeya later for the Jets.
Still, he didn't just placed Gholston as a starter and let a veteran go. One thing is to say things and another is to actually make decisions based on what you believe.
