http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/da...ot-be-back-from-injury-until-after-week-1.ece Moore: Terence Newman might not be back from injury until after Week 1 Related items David Moore was on with KTCK-AM 1310 on Thursday to talk about the Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman going down with another injury and the team’s plans until he’s healthy. The Terence Newman thing, he’s just going to be out for the preseason, right? David Moore: I think given the severity of the injury; certainly all of preseason and its questionable whether he’ll be back for the first game. Newman tweeted last night he’ll be back for the Jets game. I don’t believe there’s that unabashed optimism elsewhere in the Cowboys organization. This is an injury that’s five-to-six weeks, best case scenario. If you go at six weeks from the injury, that puts you three days after the regular season opener in New York. Even if he’s able to come back for that first game, you have to question at what level he’ll be. Who might that bring into play at corner that we’re not thinking right off the top of our heads? David Moore: Well, [Orlando] Scandrick’s going to be the guy. Now he’s also going to be the slot guy when they go into the nickel. They’ll also put him on the outside, and this is a big opportunity for him. I think he feels he’s kind of been placed in a box here and hasn’t been allowed to compete for a starting corner job on the outside because he’s so valuable in the nickel. On Scandrick possibly having a give-up attitude because of his situation. David Moore: Two differences with Scandrick is: One, there’s no give-up attitude in him. He’s a hard-edged guy and really competitive. He gets after it. Two, this is his contract year, and he wants to show everyone that he is more than a nickel corner. I think this is a great opportunity for Scandrick. If you go back to the rookie years, a lot of people thought he was better than [Mike] Jenkins when they both came in as rookie.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/da..._s-role-increases-with-terence-newman-out.ece Orlando Scandrick's role increases with Terence Newman out By DAVID MOORE Staff Writer dmoore@dallasnews.com Published 04 August 2011 01:23 PM Orlando Scandrick will start at corner with Terence Newman out. That doesn't mean the Cowboys intend to relieve him of his duties as the slot defender. "He's going to be jumping out there at the outside corner,'' secondary coach Dave Campo said. "But it's like I told him today, he's a very, very good slot defender. Those are hard to find. I told him hey, here's an opportunity for you to get out there at corner and show us what you can do there. "But when it's all said and done, when we go to nickel, he's going to be inside at slot. He's got to do both.''
I actually think that Newman's a little underrated--he's not a great cornerback by any stretch of the imagination, but if he played for any team but Dallas there wouldn't be 7 posts in 2 hours about how badly he sucks. You can get by with Newman as your #2 corner.
This was the best news the Jets received yesterday. Burress hurt Ellis working out for the Pats Cotch being cut Mason leaving without signing Yep, this was the best news of the day...
