Losing Shaun Ellis isn't a big loss at all. We already have young guys on the roster waiting to play. He would bring great leadership to that position, but that's really about it. He'd get maybe 25 snaps a game here. He'd get the same amount of PT in New England...so if he signs there, it's for the money...money that he doesn't need.
No argument there, but I think if we bring in Mason, we'll be fine. The defense has been #1 and #3 the last two years, so the defense is really pretty good. Yes, there are weaknesses, but look around the league and you'll be able to pick out weaknesses on all teams. The only way to really improve the defense would've been to add a passrusher, but the market was weak. That's not how you should look at it, though. This team was a couple missed tackles away from the Super Bowl last year, and a couple blown coverages the year before. There is already a SHITLOAD of talent on our roster. This offseason was about bringing back the key FAs. We have done that, for the most part. What will take this team to another level is Mark Sanchez. If he progresses in year 3, the NY Jets will shit all over the NFL.
DWAZ73 Dennis Waszak Jr. The #Jets will not re-sign @JamesIhedigbo, a source tells the AP, so the hard-hitting safety will be playing elsewhere this season. As I thought... it was Digbo or Pool... expect big things from Cook now...
Did not see this posted, No Digs DWAZ73 Dennis Waszak Jr. by LisaZimmerman The #Jets will not re-sign @JamesIhedigbo, a source tells the AP, so the hard-hitting safety will be playing elsewhere this season. Edit, apparently someone beat me to it
Damn, I was going to buy an Ihedigbo jersey if he re-signed. Oh well. He's an extremely replaceable player - Emanuel Cook will probably fill that role.
At the end of the day there was no more space for him... Leonhard, Smith, Pool, Lowery, Cook/whoever... 5 safeties is enough.
God damnit how you gonna get rid of Ihedigbo.. fuck. This pisses me off more than any other free agent, Asomugha included.
Sarcasm? If not, let's not get carried away here. Digs would have been awesome to re-sign, but I know I'll eventually get over it. He should have been re-signed though, no doubt about it.
Well considering we have some money what should we spend it on? (BPA List) *All these guys would be good depth players and should come cheap since they are still unsigned. TE? Kevin Boss and since he was a Giant he already is in NY. OLB? Matt Roth knows the 34 and could help add pass rush on rotations. DE? 1 Antwan Odom is a great pass-rusher, but he can't stay healthy. 2 Shaun Ellis terrorized Tom Brady in the divisional round of the playoffs. Hopefully if he signs its with us and not them. WR? 1 Malcom Floyd could be a good #3 but has battled constant injuries. 2 Derrick Mason was already brought is and offered a contract. 3 Steve Smith suffered a nasty knee injury in December and may not be ready for the start of the 2011 season. When healthy he is great. 4 Mark Clayton caught 22 balls for 300 yards and two touchdowns in four games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. ILB? (Not a need, but listed it anyways.) BPA1 Channing Crowder doesn't live up to his trash talking, but he's a decent, two-down inside linebacker. BPA2 Lofa Tatupu is no longer the elite inside linebacker he once was and coming off two knee surgeries.
Crowder, yes I agree, but there are no good ILB left. I listed him, but didn't say we needed or wanted him. Good thing we don't need a ILB.
