Were we really #3? I thought it was like 7 or something, but I'm confident in the receivers we have now is what I was trying to say, and its never a bad thing to have too many good defenders

He's still an effective receiver. He'd be happy to play for a one year contract. He can cede playing time to Kerley as he develops.

This is a one year deal to get a solid vet presence on the team. Tanny dealt with the core players he had to over the past two years, and he'll now keep building on that through the draft. I'm sure he's looking to draft a new #2 next year. Think about this: if he picks up a receiver, safety, and OLB in next year's draft, we'll have our entire core in place for 2012 and 2013. It's a brilliant multi-year plan he's working with.

A lot of us wanted Braylon re-signed, or for Mark to have that 2nd receiver to develop with. The team was rightfully wary of Braylon, and who else was available? Instead of settling for a Malcom Floyd or James Jones, they put the money where it was going to make an impact and will add two veteran one year wideouts to keep us competitive. We're in an excellent position to compete this season...and we're only going to get better next year even when we're in a brief shitstorm financially.

Found this gem, among other retarded posts, on a Ravens Board.

The Ravens know what routes Mason runs, so they can stop him.

Nooooo! They have discovered our one weakness! Shut down the possession receiver we haven't even signed yet and our offense crumbles!

Something must really be wrong with Cotchery for the Front Office to be doing this. I feel bad for Cotch.

Something is wrong with Cotch: he counts for too much against the cap in a year in which that's a problem. Don't feel bad for him, though. If he gets cut tomorrow, he will have made $16 million over 3 seasons of a 5 year deal, and he'll be free to sign on with another team once he checks out medically. He'll be fine. It sucks to see him go somewhere else, but it's a tough decision that seems rather necessary.

Or Rex and Tanny said, "Hey, Derrick Mason would improve our team on the cheap. Let's get him!" and this doesn't affect Cotch at all.

For a really good signing this is one miserable thread.

So the Jets are going to import the Ravens' offense to build the team around the slot receiver?

I don't see how you can have Cotchery as a #4 WR with that contract also trying to get Kerley involved.

Yeah, I don't hate the signing or anything, but his age concerns me a little. Still had over 800 yards and 7 TDs last season, so he may definitely have enough in the tank to be a good #2. I just feel that going from Holmes-Braylon-Cotch to Holmes-Mason-Kerley is a downgrade. Though we don't know how Kerley will turn out yet.

Kerley is a rookie wideout. I would expect his main contribution to be on special teams. And while juggling Cotch and Mason as 3rd and 4th WR's might be a challenge for the coaches, I'm pretty sure that's a challenge many teams wish they had. "Oh shit, we have too many good players" is a good problem to have, especially considering neither Mason or Cotch are diva-types likely to complain about not getting enough touches.

I like how they think Rex is holding a grudge against the Ravens by trying to sign the players that they release or are free agents. Not like he hasn't gotten players from plenty of other teams in the NFL. According to the crackpot Raven fans he wants to get back at the Ravens for not making him their head coach. I actually enjoy the fact that every fan base hates the Jets, it will make winning that much better. And to top it all off, I do not understand why people do not understand that the media is the reason the Jets have so much coverage, not Rex Ryan.

He's not going to the Pats, if the Jets are dropping Cotch it's gotta be because he is clearly not going to be healthy. The Pats aren't going to pick up a beat up slot WR.
