It's hard to get over a player who's contributed balls-to-the-wall like Cotch has (see: last Cleveland game). But it's an incredibly smart move by Tanny should this happen.
You're ignoring the fact that his back injury's already been mentioned about ten times in this thread.
ellis & cotchery are true jets. they still perform for the team as well. it's a kinda sour feeling the way their gettin' treated. like i said they still produce for the team. hope they both return.
Saving 2 million in cap space in 2012 while getting roughly the same production from a different player is a good move. Sucks to see Cotch go but this is a business and sometimes you gotta make tough decisions. When you have several players at several different positions who are top 5-10 at their respective positions you have to make these kinda decisions.
Tanny isn't looking to be competitive when Cotch is 30+, when his production is easily replaceable through drafts or future FA signings. He wants to win now, and Mason allows that upgrade now.
I would rather stick with J-Co but im assuming his injury is worse then i had thought and Mason is still a damn good receiver even at 37.
It'd only be 2 million in savings if we cut Cotch next year......it's closer to $4 million in savings on next years cap, if we trade/cut him, now.
And just had major back surgery. I have been a huge fan of Cotch since herm edwards refused to play him even though everyone on tgg could tell he was better than Jmac. I am a bigger fan of winning games and this move makes sense for so many reasons. Your age argument means nothing since it is highly likely that cotchery won't be on the team next year no matter what.
Won't J-Co miss a couple of games even if he stays a Jet? Mason isn't bad at all for a 37 year old WR, I say sign him....
Yep. Mason = Cotch this year. Then next year we have $4 million in cap space, and a 23 year old Kerleythe to (hopefully) step into the #3 role.
tanny's lookin' out for the future, gotta remember that. i keep thinking about how just about everyone restructured there contracts except sanchez. wonder why tannenbaum never went to that especially when mark said he'd do it for the team.
If you want to draft derrick mason onto your 2011 fantasy team, you should not have a problem getting him in later rounds. He used to be a pretty good receiver, however at 37 he is in decline as a football player. With 34yo plax on board I would prefer to see us go after a younger WR such as Floyd.
