Mason had more receptions (61), more first down catches (44), and as many TD's (7) as any Jet receiver last year....

That's more than likely bullshit. There's no way TCU just let their wideouts play street ball.

I don't like Derrick Mason! His last name isn't Cotchery.

    Maybe i worded it wrong

    http://www.thejetsblog.com/2011/08/03/the-rookies-work-while-veterans-are-still-sidelined/

Anywho. Would be a good signing for the Jets. But could spell the end of a favorite for many of us. Torn!

fair point, i just would rather have somebody who isn't 37. no doubt he has skills but its a young man's game.

That's a retarded article. ...just because he never ran a comeback doesn't mean TCU didn't run set routes.

There's no way in hell TCU just let their guys go out and run whatever the hell they wanted.

Andy Dalton wouldn't have had any success if they were doing that.

Cotchery's injury must be worse than reported. The rumors of trading him are obviously just that, rumors. No team is going to touch him with a ten foot pole at this point. Perhaps he's looking at IR this season?

Fun fact - I've drafted Mason in the 4th round of just about every FFL league I played in during the 2000's, and never once regretted it. When healthy the guy is money, and would be a great addition even at his age.

I still want Braylon back if Cotch is out of the equation.

    not really

Cotchery's younger, but that's about all he has on Mason.

I've always liked Mason, he may be getting up there in age but he's a very solid WR (always did pretty well for me in fantasy too).

Because he's still a good possession WR and a tough one at that. He still put up over 800 yards and 60 receptions last year. He'd be great in spells.

You read his stats as if they're some garbage stats

I'll just say this ... a big name WR who switched teams this year had very similar numbers last season.

    67 receptions 831 yards and 4 TD's

    61 receptions 802 yards and 7 TD's - Mason

Can you figure out who is the first guy listed?

If that's true, then I can't believe Andy Dalton was drafted so high. How can you trust him to run a pro offense when he spent his receivers in college didn't even run real routes?

As for Mason, I like it. I really wanted the Jets to sign him as their #1 after the Titans let him go way back in '05, and I want him now as a #3. He's tough, he's a proven leader, and he's arguably the best route runner in the NFL.

I love everything that Cotchery has done for the Jets, but if we have a chance to clear his salary from next year's cap and get a proven veteran to replace him, I think we have to go for it.

    That would be Ocho Cinco.

    They are very similar players.

    Good post.

Does he happen to wear the same jersey number?

I'm all for Mason as #3...
