he's more important to the team than just a "run stopper". The hitman is QB of the defense, and his role is critical in everything else we do. You couldn't just really plug someone in his role like that. also, i'm not shocked by the numbers or think we overpaid. Seriously, tanny doesn't just overpay for people. he'll give the guy what he's worth, and if it's too much, we don't keep him. i never worry about overpaying with tanny as our GM

I think that may have played a big part in it. If Tanny worked it out with the agent involved to sit back and wait until other moves are made, and allow the team to structure Harris' contract tailored to the resulting cap situation, that Harris would be compensated for his patience. Probably too much money, but Tannenbaum seems to know his numbers well enough to make contracts like this friendly to the personnel situation. Happy as hell that was have him locked up for a while.
