Now that Brunnell and Clemens are gone, what are we planning to do about a serviceable backup QB? In today's NFL it's more and more rare for a starting QB to take every snap during the season. I realize we'd be screwed if Sanchez went down for any long period of time, but we do need someone who can stand in and win a game or two if needed. Could make the difference beween going to the playoffs or going home. I thought Brunnell was a good pickup for us at the time and I'd like to bring him back if we can, but if not ... Who's out there?
Yeah when Brunell got cut it was highly expected that he would return at a reduced salary. I'd expect that this may be Brunell's last year as our #2 QB. McElroy better start getting to know the system because I think year after next, he's our backup. Good luck to Kellen Clemens down in wherever.
I wonder what Chad Pennington is doing Imo he would be a better teacher than brunell and a safe backuo
Chad injured his ACL playing basketball. He's in the booth this year doing analysis for FOX I've never seen a more fragile athlete in my life but I bet he'll be great at breaking the game down. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...king-a-year-off-from-football-?urn=nfl-wp2740
Chad is basically retired. Although he didn't use the word "retire", he said he's going to take the year off from playing football and do TV work. I really doubt Chad will be back on the field as a player. I do think he would be a great QB coach (and maybe even higher level too), but I seem to recall him saying the only coaching he'd be interested in is high-school level.
Until the fish get a real QB there is always a chance they could bring in Chad. Just don't let him suit up...ever! They guy is more fragile than peanut brittle.
