This sure sounds like a situation thats getting sticky. You know coughlin is a control freak this must be killing him. Umenyiora feud getting hotter Posted on: July 29, 2011 11:29 am Edited on: July 29, 2011 3:37 pm Score: 154 Sign-up to rate: Sign-up to rate: The Osi Umenyiora staredown is real. The guy is ticked and serious about getting what he wants, which is why he wasn't at the Giants' facility Friday morning. If he fails to show up for training camp, he'll start absorbing a $30,000 per day fine. Some agents wondered if the league could impose the fine with the CBA not ratified, but an NFL spokesman told me Friday it could -- because it was part of the agreement that players approved on Monday. But this isn't about a fine. This is about integrity, and Umenyiora contends in an affadavit that was part of the Tom Brady antitrust suit that Giants' GM Jerry Reese didn't live up to his word when, in 2008, he promised that if Umenyiora were a productive player for two years he would reward him with a new contract or trade him to a team that would. Neither has happened, and as of Thursday night neither Umenyiora nor his agent had spoken with Reese. So the situation is hot, and it could get hotter. One source close to Umenyiora told me the defensive end is so steamed he won't play another down for the Giants. That's fine, execept he's under contract to the club for another two seasons. So he's stuck. The Giants don't have to do anything except collect fines for each day he misses. Plus, Umenyiora lost some leverage Thursday when the Giants re-signed Mathias Kiwanuka, a pass-rushing specialist who missed most of last year with a neck injury. Only Umenyiora is a premier pass rusher, who last year produced 11 sacks and an NFL-record 10 forced fumbles. At some point, preferably soon, this needs to be resolved -- and the Giants know it. They should put the Umenyiora issue behind them quickly, then move on. It's a distraction that nobody -- not Reese, coach Tom Coughlin or the Giants -- needs heading into a season where they're trying to return to the playoffs.
I agree. The last thing they want to deal with is hearing how stupid it was to get rid of him vause he's a beast for us. And they would have to hear it every week.
This. I'm not at all worried about players coming in here with character issues, not in Rex's locker room, and Osi can ball no doubt about it. It only takes 1 strip-sack to change a game
He's going to want a final big contract, and i don't think he has that much left in him I don't think it would be such a smart investment
First things first Mute you need to post in every thread so i can see your avatar... If Mario Williams can stand up so can Osi, Osi is just as fast if not faster to the QB. As been mentioned he can play that Suggs type role or jason Taylor type on the Jets. Suggs is just a beast were Osi's game is more about speed.
Bump. Is this still a possibility? He's still not happy according to reports, and wouldn't mind being dealt. I do agree with Cato...Roth wouldn't be a bad pickup and he'll cost nothing but money, and not as much as Osi.
The best description of Osi I've ever heard from a Giants fan: At his peak, he may have been a better pass-rusher than Strahan. The problem is that he was at his peak for maybe five plays/game. He's 29 years old, never played in a 3-4 and is looking for a new, big contract. He's not the type of player that would be open to an affordable deal right now and I think he's a poor fit for the Jets system.
He's definitely not a great fit in Rex/Pettine's system, but a pass rusher is a pass rusher. This has basically a 99.5 percent chance of not happening, so this is all pretty much a moot point.
After Charles Johnson signed for 6/72 million.. Osi's gonna want in the 10 million per ballpark. Plus the Jets would have to dispose of a 3rd rounder and then some. No.
Can't afford and doen['t play the 3-4, but officially... The Giants have given RE Osi Umenyiora permission to seek a trade, according to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.
this, this, and more of this.... seriously, i've read some shit about a 1st rounder, trying to see where that article went, but a 1st??!!? no. and more no. edit: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...umenyiora-can-seek-trade-want-firstround-pick yeah, no.
