I just heard again that the reason is that it would cost too much in the long run to for Edwards which is odd because I thought they cleared a lot up for Aso then after for a WR, who at the time was Edwards. I figure that now, the same agent we dealt with for Aso, is bringing up the price for Cromartie.

it sounds like plax has signed with the steelers from some of their beat writers. he was there for over 7 hrs. spent much of the time with colbert and spent time in the room where they do contracts. he was seen outside that room on his cell smiling and laughing. word is they now have to make a few roster moves or contract restructures in the next few days

I guess they can't sign both Edwards and Cromartie with the money they have, so they must have prioritized Cro since there are less comparable CBs out there than comparable WRs to Braylon.

After 10-minute conversation with Ike in hallway, Plax heads back upstairs to presumably Colbert/Khan's office. #PlaxWatch

"Plax disappears on second floor. Maybe signing papers? Maybe just me speculating. #PlaxWatch"

"2nd floor at St. Bonaventure Hall is where the deals are signed. Ike signed his there today Heyward yesterday, RFA Bryant this AM #PlaxWatch"

I"My professional opinion is it's done deal. Plax is a steeler. Stranger things have happened. Right, @RobRossi_Trib? #JagrWatch. Stay tuned"

"it all comes down to if Steelers can find cap room for him but they do have 5 days to re-work some numbers with existing contracts#PlaxWatch"

So we dont want to bring back Edwards who, while has had off the field issues played his ass off for us last year (remember the NE TD?) but we want a guy stupid enough to shoot himself and spend 2 years in jail? Other than money I dont see the thinking here.

The Burress to the Steelers stuff to me, that it happened today is alot of BS. The Steelers are cheap, i'd be stunned if you found out he signed with them without meeting with the Jets, who I guarantee will overpay for this guy.

I agree Namath why bring in Plax over BE. I would rather Floyd or the kid from Greenbay before Plax

Because Plax will cost half the price and half the years.

Plax is not only the better WR, but he will be cheaper than any of the mentioned options.

Plax is probably the best WR available.

#28martin, where do you get the steelers are cheap. they spend at the top of the league every year so your wrong with your info. they dont chase big name free agents but when they have a really good player they always give them contracts. what they do better then most is get rid of a player before its to late. i would bet since the salary cap started they will be in the top 3 or 4 teams for spending. remember they always have really good players, they dont go through long down stretches. i know from looking at salary cap stuff lately the last 5 years they have been at the cap max every year

They never really sign big free agents. I have alot of freinds who are big Steeler fans and they talk all the time about how the Steelers are cheap.

They rarely give the big signing bonus.

Floyd isn't on the same planet as Burress as a WR.

I wouldn't call the steelers cheap but I don't see them having a need for Burress. They have Wallace, Ward, Sanders and Brown, three of them are fairly young and showing lots of promise.

Source says, at this point, if Plaxico Burress chooses to stay in NY, it'll be to play for #Giants -- not #Jets. Had good visit with #NYG.

right they dont sign big free agents. they draft great and pay their own. guess what they are at the top of the league almost every year while teams that spend on big free agents dont do well. see the pattern. point is they spend all the money they can and they win.

Meh, until he meets with us who knows.

I agree it'll be hard though, as I'm sure he has friends both with NYG and PIT.

Still hoping, would be a ****ing coup. Plax is great.

#28martin you might want to check bens, troys, harrison and hines contracts your so far off you have no clue whats going on. heres a article from some sight by a steeler fan. tells you exactly how they do business and how they are 10 million over the cap. yeah they are cheap they need tpo spend more lmao

Steelers need to restructure contracts ASAP

I was shocked to see the Steelers entered the “lockout week” about $10 million over the salary cap. We never sign big name free agents, we’re not flashy, we don’t “buy” championships, I doesn’t seem right.

Re-signing our own homegrown and drafted talent is seemingly just as expensive as shopping for UFAs. We develop our own players and when their rookie contracts are up, we re-sign them. It’s as simple as that. Sure re-signing Ike Taylor isn’t as sexy or flashy as going out and grabbing a high-ticket Free Agent but it’s the Steeler Way and 9 times out of 10 it’s the right way.

Other teams make big splashes and are talked about on ESPN and NFL Network all off-season while we put our noses to the grindstone and handle our business in a workmanlike/boring manner. It works. It’s not exciting in July/August but it’s pretty exciting come playoff time when we’re consistently winning games.

With that said, there are some guys on the current roster that could lend a helping hand by restructuring their contracts to give the Steelers some room under the cap. We have a few areas that need upgrading and getting more cap space is going to be much needed.
