A quiet but solid move. Smith embodies "Play Like a Jet." Play hard. Do what you are told. If in doubt, crush somebody. If Westhoff lost Brad and Eric Smith in the same week, he may have retired this year.
Mannish just tweeted that pool won't be back for cap reasons. We will have a worse team than last year at this rate - which is not unexpected given the huge number of FAs we have
Pool was awful much of last year, until he started to actually read the playbook. If the Jets thought that much of him he would be back, Rex would never let Tanny not resign him. He is replaceable. If Sanchez improves (it's his 3rd year) and Tanny can get some other important cogs signed the Jets will be better than last year, easily. As is usual, it all hinges on Sanchez.
I wonder how much money Pool wants that the Jets won't bring him back. Either his agent is asking for the world, or Rex didn't like him.
those numbers are not half bad. pretty cheap for what our starting safety (or at worst case primary back up due to injury) over the next couple years. Also don't be shocked if he is a cap casualty next year if somebody emerges as a true starting safety for us this year... I'm looking at you Dwight Swipe
The Jets might be posturing at this point saying that Poole and Braylon won't be back because it would'nt suprise me if they do come back - the Jets are just trying to get them at a more reasonable price - either that or they really don't want them back. Rex and Tanny know what they are doing.
3 million!?!?!?!? Wow, that seems like a lot of money... not sure I like this move. Unless he projects as the starting SS...
market values rise every year. He played a lot of snaps and the cap floor has to be reached. Is the 3 mil guaranteed?
I know I've mentioned this in a thread before, but a really good friend of mine was Eric Smith's lab partner at Michigan State. He said Smith was one of the smartest guys he's ever met hands down. Apparently, he had an offer to play football at Harvard while receiving a full academic scholarship, but he turned it down. At any rate, I like that he's coming back. Good continuity, and he fits the system because he can hit like a motherfucker.
There have been articles on the fact that Smith is insanely smart. He can learn a scheme in a very, very fast timeframe.
How much did the #Jets want to keep safety @Esmitty33? One team source told me this earlier in week: "I'll be sick if we lose him." #nyj
