I'm just speculating but the deals probably involve a smaller cap hit this year then it'll get bigger with the new TV money that suppose to increase by 50%(from ~3-4 billion to ~5-6 billion) in 2012 according to some speculation on the radio.

I agree 100%, but he had the big drops too. All things considered, he's not as bad as the drops, and he's not as great as the game winning catches. He's a Top 10-15 WR in thiis league, and he just signed a top 3 deal. That's all I'm saying.

Anyway- I didn't say it was a bad deal yet. Like I said I'm holding off the excitement for now until I see the cap numbers for each year. If the cap #'s are between 6-8 for the majority of the contract with like a 17 million final year, the deal looks a whole lot better.

That's not quite fair, look who is throwing the ball to him.

I love Sanchez but the guy hasn't put up a big regular season yet, it's not like a big time QB putting up gaudy numbers is throwing the ball to Santonio.

    His impact goes beyond numbers.

I'm happy he's back, but my excitement is dampened somewhat by the size of the deal. I am an admirer of Santonio as a player, but this is quite a large deal for a wide receiver.

Depending on Braylon's price tag, I'm wondering whether (based on cost-effectiveness only) he may have been the better play.

I'll reserve my judgment on that until the conclusion of the off-season.

I dont mind "iron clad" gauranteed money when:

    - the player it goes to is 27
    - the player it goes to is elite
    - the player it goes to is a must for your offense
    - the player it goes to isnt oft injured

    im thrilled with this deal

Holmes was over priced.... we could have had Edwards for a lot less. Holwmes is getting Revis type money which would have been better spent signing Harris, Cromartie, Edwards.

Yet, if we get Aso too, I'll stop my bitching.

Well, that's part of my reason for not wanting to give the big $ to a WR. We're not going to be able to utilize him fully. We're a running team with a young QB.

Every good WR's impact goes beyond their numbers. Santonio Holmes is not exclusive to that.

agreed with all here. A lot of money, but it depends on who else we can sign before I say whether it is a good deal or bad.

The ONE thing this contract MUST have is some sort of an out for us if Holmes gets suspended for a year.

And your reasons are ?!?!?!?! Because a lot of us who would rather Braylon were thinking about the cheaper cost, making it easier to fill our team with other free agents who could help just as well or leave more money to get NomNom AwesomeSauce.... We have no clue what Tanny has up his sleeve but to make a claim that those who do not think this was a "no-brainer" are "fucking clueless" without any reasoning is rather juvenile and rather classless' but I guess that is just my .02 :jets:

Holmes is not getting Revis type money...

Trust Tannenbaum, he wouldn't agree to something that didn't make sense.

3 teams were fighting for Santonio Holmes and actually he left some money on the table to stay, with relationships with teammates and ..
Coach Rex Ryan a big reason why. As I reported weeks ago, Holmes was a prime target of the Redskins, who still want Cullen Jenkins as well

Truthfully everyone who is complaining about the price need to look at how much Braylon would want. We save 3 maybe 4 million? Holmes is worth it, he is elite and a huge play maker.

I've seen a lot of comments about Holmes being overpriced ... these comments are a bit strange to me.

    Data points:

    (1) Andre Johnson: 7 years / 73.5M, 10.5M per year (his 2 year extension had 13M guaranteed - don't know how much guaranteed was left on his original 5 year). Contract signed August 2010.

    (2) Larry Fitzgerald: 4 years / 40.0M, 10.0M per year (30M guaranteed). Contract signed in 2008, three years ago.

    (3) Brandon (lol) Marshall: 5 years / 50.0M, 10.0M per year (24M guaranteed). Signed last year.

    So ... Holmes was overpriced?

Andre Johnson has more incentives than usual that can escalate his contract further.

Just a point of note here...we really won't hear anything on Namdi until Friday, if I'm correct. Isn't that when FA officially starts?? The only reason we are hearing about Holmes is because he's already with the team. The other signings we are reading about are trades or guys who are released/contract up. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
