Great Twitter name too- @PokitfulofPosey I think having a Twitter account is now required if you want to sign with the Jets.
"RichCimini Rich Cimini Jets rookie pool number, per ESPN's John Clayton, is $3,429,867. " Not too bad at all.
Hmmmm Former UNC safety Deunta Williams said he is going to sit out the 2011 season to rehab his leg injury Still hoping we can bring in a pass rusher and pray he is a diamond in the rough. Running out of options though.
Morgan played the ROVER position at VT. That's basically a super-athletic, undersized linebacker in most schemes. If he wants to make this team, he'll have to compete with guys like Emanuel Cook and James Ihedigbo. ...very similar player to Eric Smith, E-Cook, and Digs. I'm sure most of you have heard the "rumor" that Eric Smith isn't coming back.
^ pretty much sums him up. This is a good signing. If any of these UDFAs stick, it will hopefully be him.
South Alabama WR Courtney Smith signed with the Jets. He was a popular player at the Senior Bowl. Big bodied wideout - 6'4 223
Wow... I would think he'd want to be signed by a team and put on IR... this way he earns some money and gets top notch treatment.
South Alabama? Did this kid play 4 years of college ball? I know they are a new program but I'm not sure how long they've been around. I think they jump to D1 in 2013. He's got some size to him. I wonder how fast he is at 223.
Smith played some ball at UAB before transferring to S. Alabama. He runs in the 4.6s. ...so he's not a burner, but he can move. *Actually, I just did some digging. The 4.6 times are his 40 times from the Alabama Pro Day. Most of the scouts there were expecting him to run in the 4.4s, possibly a 4.3. A poor start time may have caused his time to sleep. Game Speed > Timed Speed, all day. He also worked with our new rookie backup QB Greg McElroy is pre-draft workouts.
Very interesting stuff, he sorta sounds like he could be a poor man's Vincent Jackson. Obviously not as tall but if he can move as fast as the scouts were expecting he could be lightning in a bottle or he could be a guy gone in 3 days. I'm not a draft guru so what were they saying about him before the draft? I would imagine lack of competition combined with poor times speed could be a reason nobody drafted him even though as you said he had some fans at the Senior Bowl. Any chance he could play TE?
I just remember guys like Mayock raving about his measureables - his arms are almost 34 inches long and he had a 32 inch vert. Supposedly he struggled with drops during Senior Bowl week and that hurt his stock quite a bit. This is a definitely a developmental prospect, but he's definitely got the size to compete at this level. You never know with these undrafted guys - like you said, we could have something special here or he could be gone in a few days.
Ahh the old nemesis to a WR, maybe we'll get lucky and it was nerves that caused those drops and he'll catch everything thrown his way in camp. Those measurables are ridiculous. You'd hope a guy with that size could catch on and hopefully make the team but at his position it could be tough to make the team just because it seems we have so many guys that play WR.
Has anyone looked at this site yet? http://www.nepatriotsdraft.com/2011-nfl-undrafted-free-agents It's pretty accurate.
