Sign Santonio Holmes The Jets philosophically may be a run-first team, but there's little doubt that Holmes is their top offensive playmaker. After serving a four-game suspension to start 2010, Holmes made one clutch play after another in his first season with his new team. Holmes accounted for four fourth-quarter (or overtime) game-winning plays in his first six contests. He's arguably the league's best run-after-the-catch wide receiver, which aligns perfectly with Mark Sanchez's success as a short-to-intermediate passer. Holmes will likely have at least three other serious suitors when free agency begins. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan appears to have targeted Holmes, so Gang Green could be in serious jeopardy of losing its most dynamic offensive threat if the price isn't right. "He puts points on the board," said one AFC scout. "If they lose him, the offense doesn't scare me." Sign Antonio Cromartie Cornerbacks are Rex Ryan's best friends in his complex defensive scheme. So, it's critical to make sure that the 27-year-old Cromartie, who is entering his prime, doesn't go anywhere. The athletic cornerback was the team's defensive MVP for the first half of last season, providing stability in the secondary as Darrelle Revis dealt with a lingering hamstring injury. Leonhard and Cotchery have been cleared by their personal doctors to resume football activities, but one of the first orders of business will be to make sure the team's medical personnel gives them a thorough examination. Edwards? the first 3 will be very very expensive Im fine with just harris and edwards and getting a new CB and RT out of free agency if the staff has not faith on Wilson and Ducasse/whoever else might take the RT spot resign Brad smith and let the rookies take care of the 4th and 5th WR spot then

by the end of the three day window: sign edwards.then let holmes decide if he wants good money and a chance to win or big money on a bad team. resign wayne hunter resign ellis resign harris to a long term deal resign diggs or e.smith. if there's enough left after the big holes are filled get the other one back too. if this is done we will know what we have to spend on another wr and cb with the majority of holes taking care of

IMO Edwards is more important to the Jets then Holmes. he can block as well as receive the long pass. he is a team player and wants to be in NY. He plays special teams while Holmes whimps out of playing special teams. We are a GROUND & POUND team. Who is more important to us? I think Edwards! I would sign a tough CB named Jonathan Joseph. The guy is an excellent cover CB and is very physical in the run game as well as pass game. He will be cheaper then CRO and better for our team. Mario Harvey is a priority as an UDFA as is the kid safety from Rutgers Joe L.
The Jets don't and won't have enough money to sign both Holmes and Cromartie, nor will they have the money to sign Nnamdi, so you should take those demands/requests off the table. Even if they sign only one of those two, they are going to have difficutly acquiring sufficient depth necessary for serious contenders in the NFL. Let's not also forget that the Jets don't have a kicker. They'll be able to use one of their 3 million dollar cap exemptions on the kicker, but a good one will cost you a couple of million these days, unless you want to go with a cheap college kid. In order to even sign one of those big FA, you're probably going to have to either hope they take a pay cut or you will have to sign them at a significant hit to the depth chart. If I was the Jets, I would hope that Plaxico comes cheap, take a flier on him, and spend the rest of the money on depth concerns.
Jets fans seem to really be over-valuing WRs. They are just not that high of a value position in the NFL. High value positions are QB, LT, DE, CB. I am not saying they are not important, but as long as they are not terrible we will be okay. People are acting like if we lose one or both of them (Holmes and Edwards) there will be a giant gap in talent in their replacements, which is just not true. In general decent WRs are easy to come by.
No, they're saying that with a young QB consistency is very very useful, especially when it comes to WR's.
I think the issue is that they really are relatively terrible. Take away Holmes and Edwards and the Jets probably have a bottom 3 talent level at the position with a questionable QB. Which teams would be worse at the WR position? Carolina, probably (unless they upgrade, for example by signing one of these two). Who else?
