Yet another ballsy win by the Mets , when Wright and ike are fit we have to fit Murphy into 2b somehow as IF we retain Reyes we have a great hitting infield. Alt Murphy at 3rd...does that make it acceptable to trade Wright in the offseason and get 2 x prospects.
I see this rumor on MetsBlog(sny)...if the Mets would trade Beltran to the Phillies (and I'd like to see Beltran do well on whatever team he gets traded to, so I would NOT be happy to see him go there), the asking price seems to be Dominic Brown. That is very intriguing. Brown seems as though he can eventually be a very good, borderline All-star in the future. What you say, Mets fans? Would you be on board with Beltran going to our rivals if we get a player with the potential of a Dominic Brown? I'd have to begrudgingly say yes. Edit: Just to add...they're linked to the Braves, too (obviously, another team I'd rather not see him go to) and the player mentioned as possibly coming back to the Mets would be Mike Minor, who seems like an excellent, potential top tiered starting MLB pitcher. Good ERA in the minors and striking out more than a batter per inning. Very intriguing. I hate to say this, because this team is easy to root for, they almost HAVE to trade Beltran if this is the caliber of prospect they can get back. I know he's often remembered for the pitch he didn't swing at (which is unfair, imo) but i'll always fondly remember him.
I'm sorry I keep adding to this, but here's the link....http://www.metsblog.com/2011/07/21/field-narrowing-for-a-potential-trade-of-beltran/ hahah...the article also mentions that Beltran feels his knees "are as strong as they've been in years." Now.....if that is the case, and his play (yeah, yeah, contract year) certainly indicates that might very well be the case, if there's any chance the Mets would sign him to a multi-year contract, which there probably isn't, they shouldn't trade him. I would hate to see him go to another team and have 3 or 4 more productive years in another uniform.... imo, he will be traded, he should be traded. It really sucks we had this nice core of guys and other than 1 playoff appearance, we didn't really do shit.
Like always, it comes down to pitching, and the Mets didn't have enough of it in 2007-2008. Also, Omar's idiocy resulted in their depth not being what it should have been, and with barely competent managing they obviously would have made the postseason those years, although I doubt they would have gone too far. 2006 was the year, I'm afraid. I don't know anything about minor league prospects so I can't comment on any specifics, but it would be very disappointing if the Mets end up trading Beltran to either Philadelphia or Atlanta. I would hope that they could get a decent prospect from someone else.
i really wouldn't mind trading beltran to the braves. There's the obvious history/rivalry between the Mets and the Braves but from an organizational standpoint, I always respected them because of how classy Bobby Cox and John Schuerholz were and how they ran the organization in such a smart, effective way. Even though I hated guys like Chipper I at the least respected him because of how great a player he was, and more often than not he told things the way they really were. I would throw up if we traded Beltran to the Phillies. I fucking hate them so much, fucking scummy ass pieces of shit all of them. Even if the Phillies offered Dominic Brown I would tell them to do one. I hate them so fucking much.
I was thinking about Domonic Brown earlier in the week. Now I see he is being rumored in a deal for Beltran. I would like the Mets to do that trade. I don't think the Phillies should do it. They should acquire a lesser OF than Beltran and hold onto Brown. They could win the WS this year with so-so hitting because their pitching staff is so good. Sending your top prospect to a division rival for a rental player is a tough thing to do. I lived through 2009 when the Mets were pathetic on and off the field and the Phillies played the Yankees in the World Series. That was rock bottom. It will never get worse than that unless the whole team blows up in a plane in some future year. Sure, if Beltran goes to the Phillies or Braves I couldn't root for him, but big deal. As for the Braves, they likely would not trade Julio Teheran for anybody, but it wouldn't hurt for the Mets to ask. I'd rather the Mets acquire Arodys Vizcaino or Randall Delgado than Mike Minor. If Alderson & co. believe that the Phillies have made a better offer than any other team, then Beltran's going to the Phillies. This trade will be about trying to make the Mets better. Alderson doesn't care if some fans puke if Beltran puts on a pink uniform or one with a tomahawk on it.
I don't doubt any of this with Sandy at all, I was just armchair-ing from my own position as a fan with no power over anything RE a hypothetical Beltran trade to the Phillies. I don't know if we'll be able to pry either of Vizcaino or Delgado from the Braves, would obs like to see it happen though.
I will miss Beltran a ton if they decide to trade him, but I feel Alderson will get a great deal for the Mets. I like that they are saying they'd be willing to pay the rest of the year's contract to ensure they get a quality prospect.
Good thing Omar's not involved any more, he'd be happy to make a deal for Jose Vizcaino or Carlos Delgado.
Awful awful play by Murphy at 1st and a run scores. Doesn't matter as Carasco gives up a 2 run HR anyway. Looks like this game is over.
Reyes has 6 more multi-hit games than anyone else in baseball. Amazing considering the time he missed. NL batting champ because no one else is even close.
this isn't even open to discussion he has been part of our problematic teams over the last 5 years we must rid this team of Reyes' stench and clean house of these losers so that we can start winning again right? Right?
Just saw this on ESPN Insider: Analysis: The Rangers, Giants, Braves and Phillies remain the top candidates to acquire Carlos Beltran. According to one GM there is a top-tier pitching prospect on the table for the Mets, who now know they won't have to settle for a second-tier prospect in exchange for Beltran. The Texas prospects in play include left-handers Robbie Erlin and Robbie Ross, as well as right-handers Joe Wieland, Neil Ramirez, Tanner Scheppers, Barret Loux and Roman Mendez. That is pretty good news for the Mets. I just hope it works out for them.
The Rangers are offering quantity, while the Giants are offering quality on Beltran Per Ken Rosenthal on twitter. I hope he ends up in Texas, I want BJ Upton from Tampa Bay more.
