This was how I understood the current status as well. This doesn't affect free agency however, if a player were released after 4 years they would still be a free agent.

I'm starting to encouraging messages around the www now that this crap now has a silver lining.
If this is true, the next few weeks are going to be completely nuts.

Hey guys, things are looking good right now.

A article was just posted on the Ravens site about the situation just 5 minutes ago

NFLPA Executive Committee member Drew Brees says the sides are “very close.”

Good end this shit and I will forgive Goodell. But if we start missing training camp Goodell will have all hell to pay.

The deal will be signed at 5PM on Saturday night so that, not only will it be the top sports story that will run (and be mentioned) during every weekend game but, it will also be THE front page headline Sunday in every newspaper across the country.

Chris Mortensen is reporting that the negotiating teams have agreed on a cap of $120M for the coming season PLUS $21M in benefits. I think I'm right in saying that the previous cap included benefits as well, so effectively this means a cap of $141M in old money?

I think benefits covers things like players' medical insurance and usually accounts for about 15% of the cap, but don't quote me on that - someone else will know better than I.
