Reyes with his 3rd 4-hit day and 14th triple of the year, and another nice day at the plate for the team. Unfortunately Turner really is a terrible third baseman, and Collins is apparently determined to use Rodriguez at least once every three games, making him harder to trade in a month (one thing for sure, he hasn't been told to bury him in the bullpen), and once again he was awful in a non-save situation. Still, 2 out of 3 on the road against a good team is okay.

Interesting item at ESPN concerning the finale of the Mets v. Rangers series today (Sun., 26-June-2011):

Michael Young: "Don't blame the umps"
    by Art Garcia
    ESPN Dallas/Ft. Worth
    June 26, 2011

    EXCERPT:
"[Umpire Andy] Fletcher threw out both Washington and Elvis Andrus, who sat out Sunday with a sore wrist. Mets manager Terry Collins was given a choice to throw out one of the Rangers because of the constant complaining coming out of the Texas dugout.

"Collins chose Andrus in an act of sportsmanship. Young, apparently, was the one voicing his displeasure the loudest and before his next at-bat shared a knowing smile with Collins."

    >> I've been watching baseball a long time, this is the first I have ever heard of an umpire giving a manager a choice of what opposing player should be ejected because the opposing team's bench has been complaining excessively from the dugout.

Anyone else ever hear of this?

As stated in the article, if true, good on TC in selecting the already injured Andrus to be the one to get the heave-ho.

I can see Reyes going pre trade deadline purely because some team will give us somewhere near what we want i.e SP/2 X top prospects and an OF.

I cannot see us holding on to him for two months just to get two draft picks next year.

Ref yesterdays game, I like Gee he seems completely innocuous but gets the outs and the results. He is like a very poor mans Glavine.

This Met game is crazy, they havent hit a GS in almost 2 years and then they hit them in back to back innings.

Also amazing is that I was watching. I had put SNY on maybe 10 minutes before the Josh Thole home run.

Oddly, I did the exact same thing. I put it on and Thole was the first batter I saw.

Ho hum, another 4-hit day for Reyes (2 singles, a double, and a triple). The grand slams are great, of course, but it's absolutely ridiculous how well Reyes is playing.

This makes up for one of the Tiger Stadium games.

Didnt the Mets get swept by a terrible Tigers team one year?

The 1997 Tigers were not terrible. They were a middling team much like the 2011 Mets. The Mets were indeed swept in that series in Tiger Stadium. The Mets hit 0 home runs. Detroit hit 14.

Another series that was very damaging in the same era was the July 1996 series in New York against the Expos. It was after the All-Star break and the Mets were a couple games under .500. They were in the Wild Card hunt and beating the Expos 3 games out of 4 or sweeping the series would have been huge. Instead, the Mets were only able to win one of the four games and then went on the road and lost five straight games. That 1-8 stretch basically took the Mets out of the playoff picture.

    Okay Okay......where are my tablets...

Reyes has another 4 for 4
2 Grand Slams...one from the mets version of Noodle Arm

Oh and we are over .500

I can't take all this in one game!!!!

If Collins doesn't get coach of the year its a joke in my opinion, guy has taken a broken franchise, 3 of his best players out and actually made us proud of this team.

I think this is all shaping up into a typical "Mets" season. Play good enough ball so u don't trade away your biggest chips, epic collapse immediately after the deadline, lose FA chips for no compensation.

Detroit only hitting homeruns two games in a row...Mets still winning though.
