First and foremost, Moss can still play. I'm not saying he'd lead the league in receiving yards, but as long as he sticks with one team (that is not awful) next year he'll be a solid contributor. With that said I'm pretty sure Moss wants to play for the Pats. Unless they pass on him, I doubt he'll have much motivation to "get them back" as some posters have suggested. Dude seems to be in love with Belicheck at this point. I'm not one for conspiracy crap, but could this be a rouse by Moss camp to try to pressure the Pats signing him back?
I trust the Jets front office to do what's best. This may all be posturing to get the Braylon and Santonio signed, may not be. Who knows. I don't think the Jets will bring in someone they think they can't handle. Its a good feeling to be confident that your team won't make stupid moves.
If this is just posturing that it's a pretty confounding choice. Moss has gone off the fucking deep end at this point and he was let go by two teams for character reasons. I'm just going to go ahead and say that I don't think Rex can handle Randy Moss. I don't think Vince Lombardi coaching Randy Moss at gunpoint could handle Randy Moss.
Fuuuuuuck Moss. Obviously Rex, and Tanny know shit myself, and alot of us dont, but this would be shit.
Moss fucked the dog in Minnesota....and then lowered the bar even further in Tennessee. He's received his fair share of chances in this league. I know he's a gifted athlete....but this guy isn't worth the time or aggravation. The minute he's unhappy, it will be a media circus. Rex, Sanchez and Schotty don't need that headache. I really hope the Jets are posturing here....I really do.
On the other hand, it would be awesome to give him a futures contract and find a way to legally force him to return punts in the preseason.
Moss commands double coverage on nearly every play. Do you have any idea how huge that is for one of Santonio or Braylon?
Hell no. Randy Moss is a one trick pony and a cancer. If he doesn't get to do his trick often enough, then the cancer spreads. Also he doesn't run block. Rex is just doing coachspeak. No chance we sign that bag of turd.
In order, the WRs I want the Jets to sign are: Edwards (yes, Edwards first) Holmes (though only barely) Ochocinco (who I like more than Holmes but is older) Moss (who still has gas left in the tank and brings intimate knowledge of the Pats offense with him) B. Smith (mostly because his ST play will be missed) I'm honestly not a big Holmes fan at all. Everyone talks about how much of a game changer he is, but he's invisible for 45 minutes every week. Sure, he's done some magical things during "Tone Time" but Edwards is doing important things, like blocking, all day. I want a guy who will play 60 (and whether you want to admit it not, while Ochocinco might be a clown, he doesn't quit on the field. Moss is debateable.)
If I was a Jets fan I wouldn't want this to happen for the sole reason that Moss would not likely show up with his A-game in the two tilts against the Patriots. Did you guys see him after the Minnesota game last year? I've never seen anything like that... in any sport. He was basically openly pining to be a Patriot again and slapped the Vikings (and particularly Childress) in the face. That got him released of course, but it also showed that Moss has a soft spot for NE. You probably don't want one of your players to have that kind of nostalgia for your biggest divisional rival. I don't know if he'd show up, and in football the season is too short to not show up for all 16 games.
I've got to believe it's posturing. While I do think Rex could handle him, I don't want him. Sure we have a team full of "personalities" but ALL of them play hard every down, Moss doesn't.
^ this post. He dogged it against the Patriots, and then embarrassed the team that traded for him. If the Jets are in a early hole in 2011, Moss won't show up. Moss showed up against the Jets, when the Vikings still had life, but when it was hopeless, and against the Patriots...he couldn't give two shits. Postgame presser he gave Bill Belichick, and the entire Patriots organization verbal fellatio after a terrible performance.
That was bizarre. I was almost uncomfortable just watching it. Mouth hug upon mouth hug. Here it is for anyone who didn't see it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRVXQrqF4qs Crazy.
A couple of years ago, Moss would have been worth the trouble. Not sure how much he's got left to offer. He simply can't be depended on, I'd rather have Braylon Edwards and Santonio or even Ocho for the team chemistry.
Cromartie did a hell of a job on him in the NE-Jets game without much safety help. Moss just wasn't able to consistently beat good single coverage any more.
