They did make a comment about him being able to afford such high quality equipment. The shit was crazy looking, and probably weighed a fraction of what the Mountain was wearing.
He chopped the horse's head off because the gay knight knew his horse was in heat, and felt that was the reason he lost. I was pissed as fuck he chopped its Head off and they didn't kill that fucker. On a side note, I found it hilarious in both jousts when the Mountain would pull up on the horse and then open that little eye slot on that ridiculous helmet. Very lol

Not a fan of Big Gay Renly. I get that they don't have enough time to develop the character they way they did in the books but turning him into a complete fairy is a weird decision.
Its implied by pretty much everyone in the books that he is gay but he's not the chest shaving fairy we've seen so far. He's inexperienced as far as war goes but he's supposed to look like Robert did before he became a fat fuck and he certainly wasn't getting the vapors at the sight of some blood.
The gay knight, Loras Tyrell, rode a mare in heat, so it made the Mountains horse all horny and fucked with it's head, and he lost because of it, the Mountain knew and blamed his horse, and attacked Loras as well. So basically Loras cheated.
