Couple of new mocks. With no trades here's how Kirwan, Kiper, McShay see the Pats going in Rd. 2: Kirwan: Marvin Austin Mikel Leshour Sam Acho McShay Brooks Reed Mikel Leshour Randall Cobb Kiper Brooks Reed Rodney Hudson Mikel Leshour
This seems uncertain... I think you're right as far as the Jets strategy - it works great when you hit. I like the idea a lot, get a top player in the draft and fill your other holes through free agency. It works nicely. Just kinda stinks when you miss. I'm less optimistic than a lot of fans about Wilson however, so I'm not sure it's pure genius or anything. Also, didn't Crable last on their team like 3 years? 2 of which were IR years?. O'Connell was cut sure, and Wheatley looks like a bust, etc... But isn't that the same thing as the Jets strategy? It works great when you hit? I mean, last year their draft strategy looked amazing with all the players they got in the 2nd and 3rd round. The year before not so much. As always, it's just about hitting on the players you pick. I have no idea if they made the right call with Solder, but he seems like a harmless pick. They did need offensive line help certainly, and Parcells had Solder as the best o-line guy available at least. Hard to call him a reach really. They'll look pretty dumb if Jordan or Prince is a huge star, but they'll look great if Solder is the next Vollmer... Do you know if he is? I don't...
I have no clue what the Pats' plan is. Trading down is great if you're Washington, but I don't really get it all the time for New England.
I don't understand this shit either. How many roster spots does this team have. Luke warm draft for us so far.
Every year I am scared of all the great players the Patriots will have a shot at, but every year it never ends up that frightening....yet the media continuously praises their drafting skill. They have definitely become very overrated when it comes to drafting.
Who would you rather have: McCourty Gronkowski Mayo Hernandez Spikes Vollmer or Revis Harris Ferguson Mangold Keller Wilson B Smith Washington Those are the best picks the last five years for each team. They have made 50% more picks than us in that time frame in rounds 1-5 yet we have the only two All-Pro's (Revis, Mangold) and more borderline pro bowlers (McCourty, Mayo, Meriweather) vs (Ferguson, Harris, Smith, Washington, Keller)
There is a reason they draft a CB every year in the 1st or 2nd round....because they miss. Wheatley (#2) already cut, Butler (#2) benched this year will prolly be cut next year.
Every year I think the Pats are going to make use of the picks they have. Every year I end up shaking my head and laughing at the end of the day.
I think that the most confusing pick was Steven Ridley at #73. A) Why would they take another running back, when they have 6 on the roster and just drafted a significantly better back in Shane Vereen; and B) Why did they take Ridley in the 3rd round? I think that was a big reach, and they would've done much better with someone like Alex Green, staying consistent with picking a RB.
Wewll the pats had some kind of plan, They now have an heir apparent to a QB who fell and had a huge chip on his shoulder. That person is anotehr QB who fell and should have a huge chip on his shoulder. I will be interesting watching that play out for our Rivals.
haha couldn't agree more.. happens every year because every year they trade back and load up on picks the following year.. while picking non-impact guys with the picks they actually make.
