Who knows but anyway (from PFT): Patriots have spoken with Browns about sixth pick Mike Holmgren of the Browns has made it clear he wants to deal. At least one team is listening. We don’t know how serious talks between the Patriots and Browns are, but Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Globe reports New England has talked with Cleveland regarding interest in the No. 6 overall pick. ESPN has also reported that the Patriots want to move. Bedard figures the Patriots want to move up for UNC pass rusher Robert Quinn, who would convert to outside linebacker in New England. Bedard believes Julio Jones or Patrick Peterson could also be targets.
Whoever they take, just hope they bust. I liked Darius Butler and Ron Brace coming out of college. They both have underperformed. I've been rooting against them since. Hope they take Julio Jones. He isn't as consistent as Green.
Well, the only good thing about that is that they will have to give up a chunk of their 8 million picks for him.
If Peterson is available, it's the pick. You don't pick Quinn over Peterson. All depends on Zona.....Peterson or Gabbert.
The Pats are in the market for an elite pass rusher.....moving up for Quinn makes sense actually. this could ruin my day, if it's true.
AJ Green to the Pats would be a disaster too. But I'm concerned with Belichick rebuilding that defense into a force. The Pats offense can be trumped, the Jets D have shown they can do that.....but when Belichick has an elite defense, that's when it gets dicey (I don't trust Schotty to NOT fuck up the offense by overthinking everything again).
Exactly. It would take 17 and 28 or 17, 33, and 92. Either way, that's one fewer quality player the Pats are taking off the board. Browns are shifting back to a 4-3, and rumors have them interested in Quinn anyway. If Quinn's the pick for the Pats, one of those 3-4 players we love likely falls to us, the Pats fail to address their offensive line (or steal another 3-4 guy) in the 1st round, or they lose 2 picks in Rds 2 and 3. As Mick says, if they trade up, you hope the guy busts and focus on the benefit for your team's prospects later in the round.
It would definitely be for #17 and #28 , if its not I'm throwing down the conspiracy card. The real question is would you rather the Pats stay in position and get 3 guys like Castanzo at 17 , Heyward at 28 and an OLB like Reed or Houston at 33 Or Quinn and the Best available OL or DE. Imo I'd want the first one ( you could also switch it around to Watt , Sherrod, and Sheard )
Robert Quinn's a hell of a player, but...3 high potential players > 1 or 2 high potential players If they give up everything for that 6th pick, then they'll miss out of some players that will help them down the road.
I'd rather them hedge their bets on one great player than 3 good ones. Worst case they end up with one elite guy, not 3.
They won't be giving up 3 picks in all likelihood, but I agree. It's enough to lose one of those first rounders IMO. It's a big help to us to have one fewer 3-4 player potentially taken from us and I'd love to see the Pats put all their 1st round eggs in one basket.
i would pick quinn over peterson, especially if im the pats ... they have very good corners and a good return man, peterson would improve those positions, long term, but not as much as quinn would improve their pass rush true, but the pats are pretty much batting .500 in the draft over the past few years, anyway ... if i were them, i would move up for quinn for the two firsts. they still have a bunch of high quality picks
This news pisses me off so much. I do not want to see the Patriots with any top 10 picks (unless they plan on drafting a punter with that pick, which wont happen).
The reality is that the Pats will have an elite D is 2-4 years or so. The upside of that is Brady will be getting ready to retire by then. Just being positive you guys. :breakdance:
