The 4/25/11 issue of Sports Illustrated contains an excerpt of Ryan's book Play Like You Mean It. It looks like the excerpt is mostly about the Darrelle Revis holdout and how Ryan helped get the deal done. The new issue is not up at www.si.com yet, otherwise I'd post a link to the excerpt. Either wait for it to show up there or head out to the store and buy a copy of the magazine.
May 3rd is the date in which it will officially hit bookshelves. Some places may possibly make it available a few days before then. I would imagine there will be some book signings in NY and NJ. It's not like Ryan has much else to do at this time.
That was more of a book that you'd find in the business section of a bookstore. In fact, I did see it there. The Edwards book was meant as an inspirational leadership type of thing. The Ryan book, based on the SI excerpt at least, is more of an actual football book.
That book wasn't inspirational at all. As for leadership, if he had leadership then he would still be coaching. I think the BLindside movie was way better than his book.
joe benigno had a great quote one sunday night during the herm era... he said something along the lines of you are so bad you couldnt motivate 5 men to get into a hot tub filled with beautiful women... THATS HOW BAD YOU ARE!!!!!
Just googled "Rex Ryan Book" and this came up, if anyone's interested: http://www.mendhambooks.com/event/coach-rex-ryan-only-nj-booksigning-thurs-55-700 It'd be pretty awesome to meet Rex.
After the Jacksonville game, where the Jets had lost 3 straight: combined score 102-13. Legendary. I ahve the rant on tape. Joe went on "You stink! Cottrell stinks! Hackett stinks! They all stink over there right now! 102 to 13? That's an NFL football team? 102 to 13?!?!?!?!"
I think he needs to sign in Atlanta. There are more and more Jets fans and haters coming out of the woodwork. Better to be hated than forgotten about.
This is from the Amazon listing: No football fan will want to be without the book that delivers pure, unfiltered Rex Ryan—head coach of the New York Jets and one of the most popular, outspoken, well-liked, and widely respected personalities in the National Football League. Rex Ryan is known for his exuberance . . . and Play Like You Mean It explores every aspect of Ryan’s amazing passion for the game of football, plus the lessons he has learned in leadership and motivation during his years in and around the game. In his own words, Ryan takes readers behind the scenes of the NFL as he shares colorful football stories from his experiences with the Jets and the Ravens as well as his years recruiting players, coaching college foot*ball, and growing up as a child of legendary NFL coach Buddy Ryan. Rex’s unique brand of enthusiasm and motiva*tion comes through on every page. Most of all, fans will get insider access to Ryan’s headline-grabbing, brutally honest, and undeniably entertaining views on the NFL . . . and the very human side of the larger-than-life athletes who devote their lives to the game of foot*ball. From Ryan’s acceptance of the Jets head coaching job to his success in turning around a team that has long been number two in New York, from his drafting and believing in Mark Sanchez to kicking off the 2010 season with massive expectations (and a target on his back)—this book goes deep, and entertains on every level. Certainly looks to be a purely football book. Will have to see if I can overcome my irrational dislike of hardback books and get it when it comes out.
