If you actually think Dontay Moch is a better option than Akeem Ayers, then you don't know football.

I've seen some of our your posts. It seems to me that you know a decent amount about this game, but Moch over Ayers is ridiculous.

I get though, he didn't run a fast 40 and he "looks" slow in the few youtube clips you watched of him. I can guarantee you two things: he's fast enough to get after the quarterback and he's fast enough to make plays in coverage. The kid's the complete package.

By the way, I had the pleasure of watching Chris Carter wreak havoc for the past four years. Akeem Ayers is a better option than him as well.

That is a fair statement, I just like his strength ALOT the kid is a physical beast but he just doesnt take good angles to get to the QB, its very apparent on tape. I like him better as a 4-3 OLB but I think he'd be a good OLB although if wanting a strictly pass rushing LB , he'd not be my favorite choice.

I have no doubt that Bruce Miller would be a great pass rushing OLB for us. But like I said many teams need a guy like him and im not sure he gets to the Jets over teams that are desperate for sacks. If he's there in the 4th id be all for double dipping.

Moch wont even be there in the late 3rd, he should be but teams overhype the shit out of him because of his speed and workouts. Id take Ayers and a DE any day over Liuget and Carter or Liuget and Moch. He's just simply a much better LB than Moch, better instincts, better cover skills, and wont miss as many tackles as Moch does at times.

I didn't say that. I said I would like the combo of Liuget-Carter or Liuget-Moch over a combo of Ayers and whatever DL prospect might be available at the bottom of the 3rd round. The big difference is Liuget.

With regard to Ayers, it isn't the 40, but rather a combination of factors: appearing to be a step or two slow in the videos, his pedestrian high and broad jumps (showing perhaps a lack of explosion), his fairly bad 3-Cone drill, showing perhaps again a lack of foot speed and flexibility, and the lack of speed in the Jets' front 7. Even if he isn't slow, he isn't fast. While it is desirable to have an OLB who can both rush the QB and drop into coverage, if that LBer is not going to be a top notch pass rusher, then I'd prefer one who is. Yes, some football players don't test well in drills and are still very good football players, but they are the exception rather than the rule. I'm not a numbers guy by any stretch of the imagination, but the Jets need more speed on the field on D, especially in the LBer corps. I've seen the difference with teams who have that speed and those that don't. I don't care how great one's motor or hustle is, if one has average or pedestrian speed, one can't make the plays a faster player can who has roughly an equivalent motor or amount of hustle.

Both Pace and Thomas need to be upgraded, so Ayers would be ok as long as they could add an OLB on the opposite side who is fast, but there are no guarantees of that.

I also admitted the possibility that I could be wrong about Ayers, but I've learned over the years to trust my gut instincts. I'm right way more often than I'm wrong about players.

As far as your rating my knowledge of the game, please. Football isn't rocket science. I've been following the NFL and drafts for 48 years and have an IQ of 139. I'm more than satisfied with my knowledge of this game. Do you really think I care what you or anyone else on this site thinks about my knowledge of the game?

You seem like a decent guy who is passionate and knowledgeable. What's with the 'tude? You can be passionate and confident without the 'tude. Some of you guys really need to get over yourselves. You aren't nearly the experts that you think you are. The number one problem with this site is that there are too many arrogant, rude, condescending posts and posters. There's no reason for it. It gets in the way of discussion rather than enhancing it. We're all Jets fans and want what's best for the team. Some of us differ in what that is. Big deal. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A difference of opinion doesn't make anyone less knowledgeable or more stupid than you. We all ought to be able to discuss things without making it personal, getting angry, and starting pissing contests. That is juvenile, and shows a lack of maturity and a small mind.

Check out my signature. That's a very true quote. Words to live by.

    On Robert Quinn:

What in the nuts? He is a perfect fit for a 34 OLB. If I had the choice of ANY 34 OLB in the draft, Quinn is so far above all the others (including Von Miller) it's not even funny. And it's not even true that he's a better fit in a 43, because he is so amazingly suited for the 34 it makes that statement false.

I may have over stated that a bit. It's not that I don't like him as an OLB, i do I drafted him as one, but I think he'll have a better career with his hands in the dirt playing in a 4-3 scheme. Not saying he couldnt be a monster at OLB but I just think he'd benefit more as a DE. He reminds me alot of Justin Tuck.

I don't understand the love for Ayers. He had a great Jr year and an off Sr year playing in one of the weakest conferences (Pac10). I think we already have Thomas' replacement on the roster in Westerman. No way Ayers or Westerman can beat out Pace. It wouldn't take much for Paea or Taylor to replace Paouha, which fress Scott or the Safety that has to cover NG ground.

I see Ayers as Gholston part 2.

We gotta stop using Gholston as the fucking measuring stick.

Use Bryan Thomas. Gholston's don't come around very often.

Ayers will get sacks, but he won't be a 12 sack per year guy.

I think Ayers can be a double digit sack player. It may not happen right away, but he's got the ability to get there.

He didn't blitz that much at UCLA, so his sack totals look low compared to the other guys we're looking at - most of the "other" guys played defensive end...their sack numbers should be higher.

Not to harass you about it, but he really isn't much like Justin Tuck. Tuck is a powerful end that can effectively slide inside and use power moves to get to the QB as well as be solid to good against the run. Quinn is strong but his speed rush is the money maker. He's more like DeMarcus Ware than anyone else, just a ferocious outside presence. The farther away from the OL he is on the outside, the better he'll be.

The only concern I have about Ayers is that he doesn't look mean on tape.

Do you see tenacity that I maybe am not seeing? Because when I look at other guys on tape they play with that mean streak I expect out of a LB. Or is it that Ayers is so fluid in his movements on film its tough to pick up on?

I dont take it as harassment were just dicuss a player, I dont mind it. I compared him to Tuck becuase they are very similar coming into the NFL from college. Very productive when playing, strong as hell ( Tuck is stronger though), a pass rushing monster, can be seen as a OLB but not exactly the type to step back in coverage.

Used this to formulate my opinion a bit since I was only 12 in 2005: http://www.footballsfuture.com/2005/prospects/justin_tuck.html

The Ware comparison is very fair, Ware has a bit of a bigger frame but I see where you are coming from. Even stated it in my argument for the pick concerning Phillips turning him into the next DWare. I think it depends what scheme he is drafted into but I think he can translate to both and be one hell of a sack machine.

How do the JETS pass on Heyward if he is there at 30?

The best draft book (IMHO) is GMjr.com by Russ Lande. I have read him for years and he steps out of the box on his ratings. He has Heward rated just below Jordan at 34 DE. He loves Liuget (6th best player) at 43 DT. He has Ayers as a 3rd round pick (his ratings not where he will go in the draft). BTW Has Cam Newton late 2nd round talent and was very negative on VG when he came out.

I see you are a self absorbed, well, if I have nothing nice to say about someone, I shouldn't say anything.

Lets just say your opinions haven't been backed by any facts.

Actually Thomas has been a productive player for the Jets. When he was drafted, Bradway billed him as another John Abraham, but his forte turned out to be a solid run defender.

Ayers is soft and he played in the weakest major college conference. He snuck up on people his Jr year, but then they knew what to look for his Sr year. Despite the man love for Ayers shown, he really does deserve the third round rating most of the more accurate raters have been giving him. He's slow and tentative plus he's never played in a 34.

A friend of mine works for UCLA as a scout. I asked him about Ayers and he said stay away....stay far away.

It's a little bit of both I think.

Ayers plays it safe - never out of position, usually around the ball.

When the ball is snapped, he wants to be the guy that takes the ball carrier down. That's obvious when you watch tape - he finds the ball and gets there.

After comparing Akeem Ayers to Vernon Gholston, you shouldn't say anything ever again.
